Lecithin Mobilizes Fats?

Can someone fill me in on Lecithin? I was told that it helps ‘break up and mobilize fats’. Is this true? Any information on it would be great. Thanks!

I think some CLA products contain lecithin, also there are different types:

Egg Lecithin

Soy Lecithin

I do not know if this difference would effect its ability to break up and mobilize fats.

All I know is that its a mixture of lipids and triglycerides, but i dont know how effectively it mobilizes fats. Perhaps it must be used in conjunction with CLA,or another fatty acid.

I’m asking because I have this big orange container of the stuff in my kitchen. My mother uses it when she makes a fruit/vegg shake.

Lecithin is a naturally occurring compound found in all cells in nature, plant and animal. It plays a major role in almost all biological processes - including nerve transmission, breathing and energy production. The word Lecithin is taken from the Greek Lekithos, which means “egg yolk”.

A fitting name for this essential nutrient, for the egg is considered a symbol of life, strength and fertility. Lecithin is important for all of these biolgoical functions and more. Our brain is approximately 30% Lecithin. The insulating myelin sheaths that protect the brain, spine and thousands of miles of nerves in your body are almost two-thirds Lecithin.

Even the heart has a high concentration of Lecithin. Lecithin is composed of many different components, including Choline, Inositol, Linoleic Acid, Phosphatidylserine, beneficial fatty acids and triglycerides. These valuable constituents of Lecithin are vital for the proper functioning of many metabolic processes.* NOW® Lecithin Granules are derived entirely from soybeans.

That’s the paragraph on the container. I did some other reading about it and found this:

MAKE YOUR OWN ACETYLCHOLINE
Acetylcholine is the end neurotransmitter of your parasympathetic nerve system. This means that, among other things, it facilitates good digestion, deeper breathing, and slower heart rate. You may perceive its effect as “relaxation.”

Your body will make its own acetylcholine from choline. Choline is available in the diet as phosphatidyl choline, found in lecithin.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I can tell you this: The stuff is very “oldschool”, highly marketed in the musclemags of the 60/70’s (especially Weider, I know, I used to see those ads). The only company I know of that still promotes it as a bodybuilding supplement is Beverly, who also sell dessicated liver tabs, another old school supplement.

If you accept all of the diet philosophies of the 1960’s BB’ers(especially Vince Gironda) then you may be convinced that it works. You might want to contact Beverly and see if their marketing is convincing to you at…
