Lean bulk carbs

I’m trying to limit my carbs so as not to gain fat during my lean bulk.

This is my current meal plan and swaps would be appreciative. I eat a some plant based proteins for environmental and health reasons but still consume dairy and meat.

Breakfast: 2 scoops of protein, 1/3 cup of dried unsweetened blueberries, protein oatmeal packet. 1/4 cup of textured vegetable protein(80 cal 12g of protein), 1/4 cup of almonds

Lunch: 2 scoops of protein, banana, 4 rice cakes, 1/2 cup of almonds, steamed veggies, 200 calories of roasted chickpeas, Korean lean beef

Dinner: quest protein bar/chips, 1/4 cup of almonds, Korean lean beef, 200 calories of roasted chickpeas

I’ve seen a lot of bodybuilders consume cornflakes post workout for their carb source. Is that better than a banana and rice cakes?

I’m not quite sure I understand the intent of the topic.

You’re trying to limit your carbs. You just listed out your foods.

Assuming you know what carbs are: take out some/most/all of the carbs and replace with a combination of fats and protein.

Well I don’t want to COMPLETELY want to limit carbs. I’m away at 250g of protein and 100g of fats. I guess my question is what would be superior carb choices for lean bulking.

Though I don’t eat carbs, I look at your carb sources and nothing seems alarming to me. I’m more concerned with the sheer amount of almonds you’re consuming every day. Almonds are a pretty high source of oxalates, and eating a cup of them everyday (4 servings) is going to accumulate pretty rapidly. I would consider rotating in different fat sources.

I’d also ditch those quest products. Processed stuff like that is just going to work against goals for health.

Which side of the equation is tougher for you? Eating enough to grow, or not eating everything in sight and gaining too much fat?

What fats would be better options to mix in? Avocados or other nuts?

I’m a fan of animal fats myself.

I could swap some slim Jim’s for fat and protein. Would that be an ok substitute and go down to 3 servings of nuts a day? Or is that still too much

In no way, shape or form would I ever want to include Slim Jims in a diet. Have you looked at the ingredients of that?

For myself, I like things like ghee, butter, tallow, and the fats that come naturally with meat for animal fat sources. Cheese can be ok as well.

Stan Efferding has a “meals in a minute” video on Youtube consisting of rice, broth, veggies and chicken (but any lean meat would work).

Quick to prepare, cooks in an hour, and you could easily cook a days worth of food for a few dollars.

Should also add that this is a one-pot meal. Been using it lately to great convenience.

What exactly is your caloric target?

Lean bulking is a BS term.

And unnecessary

Dont know about you…

I look at it in these terms.

  1. Your staying on a maintenance level phase
  2. Your on a leaning out phase.
  3. Your in a building phase… basically enough to fuel recovery ,progression /performance in the gym.

This is the man to listen to OP. Get some basic nutrition education under your belt. Plenty of good podcasts for that these days. That being said, I’m in a similar boat as you. I completely cleaned my diet up and my biggest problem is actually getting enough calories. I took all processed food out, completely stopped eating out, and only drink water after my coffee. I started feeling run down and couldn’t figure out what was going on. I did a calorie count and was below 2000. I took the calories out but did not replace them. Weird thing was I wasn’t even hungry. The hunger came back when I had to add some carbs back in. Now I make myself eat a few small snacks a cpl time a day. My go to is every third day I have a baked potato with plain yogurt instead of sour cream. If I’ve been short on calories that seems to catch me up.
