Hey CT,
My girlfriend currently works out but she wants to try and lose weight (although she doesn’t need to in my opinion). She has a solid base of endurance and has good form on upper and lower body exercises but wants to do more than just bodyweight training. I came across your Hard Body Training For Women Program and it seems just a little too difficult for her at the moment, but something to work up to and do when she gets a little more experience. Mainly the percentage work and the Olympic lifts will cause a problem with her. Also I cannot be there to help correct her form on new exercises because we have different schedules. What is something you would recommend for her in this situation? Something almost like a plan leading up to the hard body training. Anyone’s feedback is greatly appreciated.
Does she know that you don’t want her to lose any weight? Some women have distorted images of themselves. Yikes, even if you watch videos, I see many not use proper form. That really sux you can’t help her🤗
We have conflicting work schedules so we cannot workout together unfortunately. It was different when she first started so I could teach her and go through things with her. But yes I tell her all the time she doesn’t need to lose weight but she would like to lose a little weight and wants to structure a workout plan to meet those goals, on top of eating healthy. Her losing weight will not negatively impact her health in any way. I mainly do powerlifting style workouts and I was looking for some assistance to maybe add in some metcons or something to help increase her conditioning on top of the strength training.
I haven’t heard @anon71262119 chime in…I respect her advice so much
I’ve had many women clients do this program while working with them online and I don’t understand the issues. There is one Olympic lift—that’s a power clean from the hang position, which can be substituted with another full body movement, and the percentage work is based on movements she should already be familiar with. If she doesn’t know her true maxes, or comfortable working max, have her take a couple days and test them. Then apply the percentages. It’s straightforward. I don’t know where the difficulty lies.
Looking back on it, I thought there were more Olympic lifts. I agree that I think she should work up to a conservative max to see what her numbers are. What would recommend for substitution of med balls throws? Our gym (LA Fitness) doesn’t allow them because someone but a hole in the wall performing them.

Anything similar — say a plyometric push up on the smith machine bar at a height she can work from??
