Latest Train w/ Kai Video

So, um, that seemed like a really longwinded way to say “work on your MMC”. And maybe “focus on the stretch and contraction”.

For whatever reason, Kai gives me the impression of a guy who hits the gym hard, then comes home and spends the rest of the day on the couch playing xbox. Maybe reads a book here and there to sound educated among his friends… but mostly just xbox.

(Not to take away from his accomplishments IN the gym though.)[/quote]

Yeah cause that kind of dedication to playing games pays the rent and gets you to the Olympias

Where do these people come from?

Exactly. It was just an impression… I’m certain that’s not what he actually does. He just reminds me of people I’ve known.

Isn’t that what happens in the bb forum all the time here? A good, concise, helpful response… assuming you understand all the implications of it. I was partially making a jab at this forum’s approach to giving advice.

It’s really all about context. “You need to work on your MMC” is actually adequate advice if you already understand how to go about doing it (which, honestly, I kind of expected from the guy he was training.) Just like how “you need to eat more” or “you need more intensity”, is actually good and appropriate advice, if you understand all the nuances of those statements.

If you’re new to lifting, watching this video and you’re not really familiar with the idea of MMC, or how to alter your movements so you stretch and contract the target muscle group, it’s a great video.

If you already understand that… there wasn’t much to get from the video, other than watching Kai’s passive-aggressive preaching that masquerades as humility. Which, I admit, is interesting to watch.

overall this site has become pretty fucking useless, the threads w/ contest preps are still very useful, outside of that…much is lost on many of you.

yes, kai takes you on a long road when telling a story but guess what…fuck you if you don’t want to listen. yeah, he should just say squeeze and contract be simple and concise. just as a great football coach like vince lombardi should just say throw it, catch it, defense, win. some of you are fucking retarded.

kai has been at this for 20yrs, it is his love and passion, he went from nothing to one of the greatest. if you don’t want to hear it don’t watch.

i hate this forum lately, motherfuckers should be required to post before and after photos. if you haven’t done or accomplished anything you should not be allowed to post, comment, nothing. quiet like a mouse pissing on cotton.

Let me rephrase everything I just said so it’s not misinterpreted:

I enjoyed the video.

I thought he did a very very good job explaining things.

I like the fact that he used light weights to explain the concept, and intentionally got the guy out of his ego/comfort zone so that he had a chance to really learn something.

I ALSO think that everything Kai said is implied when someone on this forum says “work on your MMC”. Kai showed you exactly how to do it, by working with the movement until you feel it just right.

I don’t think it was a waste of time.

And cyrus, thank you for posting it.

(Oh, and I also find Kai’s occasional preachy tone… odd. It just feels fake, but it is a welcome contrast to the in-your-face cockiness that some other people have.)

^this x10^

I thought the vid was awesome. At no time did Kai playing xbox pop in my head. People can only wish to have the MMC like Kai. I don’t get anyone who isn’t either bigger or can outlift Kai talking trash when he’s teaching. Either listen and learn or go on your merry way. I agree forum sucking lately. Can’t find a decent thread to learn from. I wish the big dudes would talk more and the skinny ones would just read. No wonder we lost so many quality posters.

I thought this is not the beginners forum.

Obviously the whole MMC thing is very important for BBing, but it is also pretty basic and every NON-BEGINNER should have picked it up by now. That doesn’t mean we can’t pick up some new exercises and execution tweaks here and there, but the general IDEA and FEEL should be known.

And if you don’t get the general feel that Kai is just blowing the whole MMC thing way out of proportion in his usual rambling style, then good for you.

can we change this thread to train with leslie greene please?

a little known fact for people in kais latest lifestyle video that apartment he is in isn’t where he lives 90% of the time he only uses that for his videos to add to his ‘image’ he owns a 700,000 condo iirc

It’s hard to relate to a dude who walks the path you haven’t, and probably never will.

And for the record, Kai is an artist. He paints monumental canvases of muscular men and women, erotic and sensuous. He’s so accomplished at capturing the human form, that it’s obvious he’s spent a lot of time developing these skills. I don’t think he’s on the couch with a game remote in his hands.

That’s cool, I didn’t know he did that.

I never meant what I said as an insult to him. I’ve also met a couple former-high-school linemen, 400ish pounds, relatively soft spoken, who literally do exactly what I described – one works in a bar, the other lives off daddy’s dime. Watching him in his sweats (where he’s obviously a big guy, but not obviously muscular) reminds me of them.

But wasn’t an insult to Kai at all.

On a related note, where can I see his art? I’d like to check it out.

Just type “Kai Greene artist” under Google Images.

Scenes from his art show…

The dude training with Kai had entered and won a BB contest already. I bet he thought he had MMC down too. Most guys who think they have MMC down pat really don’t.

i’ve read and seen a few of your posts, you are useless. i won’t turn this into a back and forth conversation, i’m just making an observation based on opinion, much like your observation of the kai video. again, to restate, based on what i’ve read – your insights are pretty fucking useless.

***also if you think connecting to the muscle is just a quick - remind yourself, oh yeah MMC, i got it…then you’re nuts.

the mind travels when we train, meals vary, strength and attitude vary, many things sway us daily from the tasks at hand. i can’t speak for everyone but training and connecting to my back was a much more involved process than learning how to effectively contract my biceps.

learning angles and origins from and of where to pull from for my particular body type and movement pathway took time, if you just do a fly or just do a pulldown and don’t really take the time to understand the ROM and the effective peak range of ROM within that broader ROM than you might only be filling your glass 3/4 to the top so to speak.

now sometimes, i do just try to survive, lifting can be more instinct based, when i pull a heavy deadlift or squat i might just be thinking survive, kill, kitten, freedom…whatever you mantra --it varies among individuals i suppose.

the point…i love little baby kittens, how can you not?

the point…much like a million pitches, or backhands, or brushstrokes -the practice and correct form saves you and allows for auto pilot when we are in kill mode.

this shit isn’t rocket science but what kai is addressing is that there is a deeper connection and it serves us in the gym, and in life, to strive for it each time we have an opportunity.

****the truth is when i read certain responses, i’m happy. i’m happy to be me and not some of you. i try to think and operate under the pretense that we re all given about the same number of marbles in our bag from the jump…this is not the case. i am glad w/ the number that is in my bag. oh neat, the blue one has specks and swirls. and it’s unfortunate that some of you have so few marbles to knock around.

fucking d-dags some of you. off to train arms for the 3rd day this week are you?

He has no pics or stats in hub, but is 101 years old…that makes him wise.

On a side note, I’ve been training a little over two years now and haven’t mastered MMC, especially not with every muscle. Any videos of pros training are always informative.

Thanks. I guess I could have thought of that. I actually didn’t know he was an artist until you mentioned it.

There’s a certain element of the fantastic in it, since he goes quite a bit beyond many artistic standards for the human form, and yet at the same time, he has the body to show that vision is actually achievable. I like that it creates this “it looks so unreal and impossible… but it is actually real” cognitive dissonance. Very cool

Good to see you have an eye for art.

While it is tempting to get all Internet tough on you and praise my accomplishments while belittling yours, you might want to check my training log on here. I’m not all that bad for 101yo. Promise.

If you paid attention to the video you’d hear that that fact was acknowledged. But regardless of where he lives now, he spent a vast majority of his training career there which, in my mind, makes it more relevant than the nice place he moved to after his success.
