I’m unable to do pull ups/chin ups atm. Would lat pull downs or Australian pull ups with rings be the best way to build up to full pull ups? Or both, start with Australian pull ups then lat pull downs
What’s an Australian pullup?
Lat Pulldowns are good to start. Also “inverted rows”, wherein you hang under a bar low enough that your feet stay on a floor or chair the whole time. Gradually use your feet less and less for support.
I think most ppl agree that frequency is tge solution. 2 or 3 sets every day if possible, 3 or 4 sets 5x/wk otherwise, or if you can only do it 3x/week, really hit it hard those three days.
Once you can do a pullup, do it a few times throughout each day if possible.
Google “grease the groove pullups” and you’ll probably find something good.
You’ll soon be able to do sets of multiple reps using this strategy.
Pro tip: if you carry any extra weight, losing it will help more than you may expect.
Another name for an inverted row. You see it more from calisthenics people.
Yea sorry it’s an inverted row.
Is it worth doing both?
Yes it is.
Lat Pulldowns give you the angle, inv rows give you the exposure to bodyweight and an unmoving bar.
But if you can only do one, it doesn’t matter, you’ll be fine.
I can do both
