Laroyal's Return to Powerlifting

Hey Laroyal! Glad to see you’re enjoying your ‘off’ day. Also, congradulations on upping the lbs while droppin the fat! Concerning the Immune supreme, how long does 1 container last you? You mention taking ‘3 scoops’ every mourning upon waking, if I’m not mistaken your 3 scoops = 15g, which means the container would last you 10 days, right? I am planning on doing your ‘’…project & diet theory’’ and was planning on adding the Immune supreme. And also, is immune supreme ‘exactly’ blood protein or was there any change to the formula?

I go through the immune supreme with the quickness:-) I would say 8-10 days per container. If you are going to try out my theory you may not need it, you would be getting ample immune boosting things from your initial load. A few modifications I would make to it are:

For the probiotic load…take your probiotic with your last meal and after you have done at least a week of a little tonic I learned about from Dr. Mack (1T Glutamine, di-glycerated licorice, marshmellow root, and aloe) this will repair the gut lining. Also in place of a colon cleanse I would do a blast of 20grams of citrus pectin fiber and maybe add in some calcium d glucorate. Keep me and others posted and I will be happy to help out any way I can.

So, after the modifications the protocol would look like this:
Days 1-10 (Cleanse): 20g/day Citrus Pectin Fiber
Calcium D-Glucarate
Days 11-18 (Gut Lining Repair): Glutamine, Licorice, Marshmellow and Aloe
Days 19-21 (Probiotic Load): Taken with last meal

Does this look right? cause I know that before these modifications, you had the re-introduction of healthy bacteria (probiotic load) before the Glutamine Load (Gut lining repair). And if this protocol ‘is’ correct, would you still finish it with a Glutamine load of .9g/kg.
Thanks for your help Laroyal, and I apologize for hijacking the thread.

For the calcium d-glucarate I was planning on getting Poliquin’s brand and was wondering if you’d recommend his Licorice supreme. I’ve heard CP’s licorice supreme to be some pretty potent stuff, and if I were to pick some up, I take it that I should only use it upon waking up,right???
Thanks again!

The licorice supreme IS great!! I would take it with breakfast and with lunch but not for the purpose of digestive repair, it is a cortisol response modifier that works through the negative feedback loop. I would save the licorice supreme for part of a cortisol or androgen protocol.

I would just go to the local whole foods/ or health store and buy di-glycerated licorice there. I love Charles products, every one of them, but for what you need it for I think you would do fine with a regular one.

I would definately use his Calcium-D-Glucorate. 1 tab b.i.d. to start should work quite well.

Well, I know it is kind of late for an entry but, I am travelling…again. I am in The Windy City (Chicago) for Sunday & Monday…business of course but I still love this city! Go Bears!!

My meals were pretty typical today

Wake up 3 scoops immune supreme

Meal 1 9 oz Lean ground Beef Steakhouse Burger with handful of mixed nuts

Meal 2 Shake

Meal 3 9 oz Filet Mignon 1/2 bag of spinach with 1 T (4servings) Charles Poliquin’s liquid fish oil and Balsamic 5oz Pomengranite seeds

Meal 4 9oz Steakhouse Burger 1/2 bag of cabbage

Meal 5 9oz Turkey with feta spinach pine nuts
1/2 bag cabbage

Meal 6 11oz Balsamic Grilled Chicken 2T Primal Geens, 5oz Pomengranite seeds

My workout today was really light…no speed bench, my pec shoulder tie in was knotted up and I did not want to take a chance

V Grip High Rows to belly 6x10
Tricep Pressdowns on Pullover machine 6x10
1 Arm T Bar rows in the corner 3x10 each side
Bicep Curls with dumbells 3x10
Sergio Curls on bench 3x10

Traction and mobility work for chest/soulder

Hope everyone had a great weekend! I will try to post tomorow but it is going to be a crazy day so I am not sure if I will have an entry or not.

Finally I am often asked how I prepare for travel (long road trips) in terms of food and supps…well I pack all my supps in pill caddys

(I always pack enough for 1 extra day in case something comes up) and for food I had Whole foods cook up my burgers for today (ahead of time) and picked up pre-cooked chicken and turkey from Trader Joes along with Pomengranite seeds, cabbage, bean sprouts, pea sprouts, broccoli slaw and olive oil balsamic dressing.

I have enough to think about when I have to travel that I don’t want to have to worry about preparing food or finding a place to stop at on the way that has 1.) enough food 2.) something that I would eat (yes I am a pick eater sometimes:-)

The thing is if you plan in advance it is easy to be prepared. Hope this answers a couple of the quesitons I got and helps you guys out!

Wow! Laroyal, your log always makes me hungry! What are Sergio curls?

Sergio curls are where you sit on a bench facing the bar and straight bar curl from lap to top curl position (it is like a 1/2 curl with a slight pause on your lap). Mike Francois 95’ Arnold Champ introduced me to these and they have been a favorite ever since!

So you actually take your food with you when you travel? How do you package/store it? What does it travel in when you have to check in luggage?

Good idea about the extra day of supplement insurance…

+1 for the Chi and the Bears…are you in the burbs or downtown? and where did you train? I hear Poliquin’s PPC Chicago is pretty dope and Mike Bystol is one of the best. Also, which Whole Foods did u hit up…it’s good to know that another Whole Foods is offering the whole cooking service. I’m not sure you ever mentioned the tempo and rest periods u use? Props for the hard work and dedication as usual.

Rob

EDIT: AFTER FURTHER REVIEW…U HIT UP WHOLE FOODS PRE-ROADTRIP…MY MISTAKE. I’LL HAVE TO TEST THE SERVICE MYSELF.

Hey big man, as you know I’m always reading your posts. To any who’re considering it, I asked Laroyal to coach me and through him along with an awesome Melbourne biosig practitioner, my life has been changed considerably for the better.

Just a query. Perhaps the older lifters here will laugh at my inferior knowledge, but i remember reading earlier that you did some presses till failure and noted it was nervous system failure.

How does one differentiate between nervous system failure, and the muscle simply being too worn out to push out another rep?

As far as my own ‘feeling’ goes - I always just keep pushing, and after maintaining an isometric contraction i can feel that the strength is no longer there to push it to into concentric. Furthermore, if you reach nervous system failure before muscle failure, does that mean you haven’t optimized your ability for hypertrophy/strength?

Inter has made great progress and he is a perfect example of what adherance to a good biosig program and workout can accomplish. Each week we have seen improvements in composition and strength.

I don’t know how scientific it is but, when I feel like nervous system failure is creeping in I notice subtle changes like lack of focus, less explosion, a feeling like “I could move the weight…I just don’t want to”, and a sense of being tired. The nervous system takes 72 hours to recover (hence the Westside split) where as the muscles can recover (depending on which one) in as little as 12 hours. Not reaching muscular failure does not impede progress infact, I almost always stop with a rep or 2 left in the tank EXCEPT on max effort lifts. Hope this helps and again congrads to Inter on a job well done!!

[I will actually be stopping by the PPC Chicago today and hitting up the whole foods in Glenview. Mike really is the best and I would put him amongst the smartest people I have had the privellage of talking to. He, his wife and their staff is absoulutely incredible and the facillity is one of the best in the world. If you are going to be in the Chicago area I can’t recommend enough that you take the time to drop by and check it out!

When travelling on a plane I do have to do the shake option, (I use 2 scoops goat whey or whey supreme, 1T primal fiber, 1T immune supreme, 1T primal greens). I pre measure this out put it in a zip lock and bring an empty shaker then just add h20. for road trips, just a cooler or as cold as it is getting…my back seat:-) As soon as I land it is off to my hotel to check in then…off to whole foods:-)

One of my favorite quotes comes from JB and he says “Successful people find and soluitons”. Simply put, I need to travel AND get my food in so I look for a way to do it:-)

Well, I am back from Chi-town:-) Had a nice (short) trip. I slept in today, all that driving and travel as of late has caught up to me. Thankfully, I have today off from the gym so I will be relaxing and getting some stuff done I need to do.

Woke up at 6 took my immune supreme

11am Meal 1 (talk about late start:-) 9oz turkey burger with spinach, feta, pine nuts handful of Macademias

Meal 2 9oz Lean ground beef burger with shredded cabbage

Meal 3 9oz Buffalo Asparagus Butter

Meal 4 9oz lean ground beef celery

Meal 5 9oz buffalo green beans

Meal 6 Turkey burger (same as meal 1) bowl of spinach…hey all that spinach works for Popeye right:-)

I am really looking forward to Thanksgiving a whole day of eating whatever, footbal and NAPS as well as time with people I care about and of course time with my dog (it’s his favorite holiday too).

If you guys are travelling for the holidays be safe and enjoy! I have had a couple of people ask me what they should do in terms of food on thanksgiving…my simple response is enjoy yourself, I eat as much as I want of whatever I want (you guys will see) and just try to get my protein in for the day and I advise the same for others!!

Quick question:

Do you back off from the gym if you’re ever feeling rundown or if you are sick?

Or do you ‘tough it out’ ? I have found that if I push myself too much in those situation, I am liable to get more sick. I’ll take a few days off and then go back.

Plenty of zinc + vitamin C and green tea, though.

Glad you had a safe trip. Enjoy your holidays!

I don’t really follow a set approach, I assess it at the time. Since I have been at Westside I would say I am more likely to go in and just do “something” even if it would just be acouple of set of reverse hypers or pulldowns. I don’t think there reallly is a right answer to this, If you feel like you could do something get in there and do what you can but, at the same time if you don’t feel up to it it is not the end of the world to miss a workout and your health should always come first.

Just wanted to let you know how grateful I am that I can read this. I’ve learned a ton of nutritional info through this.

On another note, I go to OSU and was at the game on Saturday. It was pretty damn sweet to watch us beat the shit out of them. I was so pissed when they got into positive yardage in the second quarter.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
