I am a lactose intolerant individual looking for a digestable protein supplement. Many supplements containing protein blends of casein, whey concentrate, and egg albumen claim to be lactose free.Is this possible? Also, does anyone have any tips to help improve my tolerability of protein powders?
I am not lactose intollerant, but I choose not to eat any dairy products. I came across a brown rice protein that is 100% vegetarian at a local health food store. 1 serving (1Tbsp)contains 12g of protein and is very easy to digest. I also use rice milk as a mix for the powder. Hope this helps!
Mike, just curious - does the rice protein contain a complete spectrum of essential amino acids and also generous amounts of BCAA and glutamine?
I’m also lactose intolerant and none of the better quality proteins or MRP’s give me ANY trouble. I’ve used Grow, Designer Pro, NytroPro, Myoplex, Ultramet, MetRX etc… and had no trouble…whereas if I use a cheaper rip-off product the milk and or egg gives me major stomach trouble. You should be all set, just stick with the better brands such as Biotest and you’ll be fine.
Yo Heb, if you are interested in Rice Protein and its amino acid profile, check out protein factory. They sell rice protein at good prices, and have the info about its amino acids as well…they claim it has high levels of alanine and glutamine…I personally haven’t tried it though, I prefer animal sources of protein.
I’m not very tolerant of lactose , but I’ve found that if I stick to mainly whey isolate I’m fine . The Canadian company Basic Sports Nutrition makes a mainly isolate 5 lb tub at a decent price . Lifeandsport.com carries it and Basic has there own site but it tends to be more pricey there . Stick to isolates .
