KSman is in ICU

I got this message from his wife early this AM:

“This is KSman’s wife - KSman is in the hospital with an obstructed bowel. He is very sick. Can you post something out here to everyone? I don’t know how, but I’m sure his fans would like to know. He’s not expected home for several days. The surgeon who did the job ‘accidentally’ clipped his intestine and bile and bacteria spilled into his body cavity. He’s now fighting an unknown bacterial infection in ICU.”

Keep him in your prayers.

I second all of that, KSman has been way more help than any doctor I have ever seen.

Brought this over from ATM.

[QUOTE=matttaylor;103373]Hi all. Dean’s second surgery lasted about 45 mins. Doc said his incsions were abcessed & when the opened him up they were oozing. They irrigated his body cavity w/ saline solution and drained. Doc says he’s going to be fine but I don’t believe it. They are culturing the crap they pulled off his stomach & the wall & won’t know what bug he’s got for 3 days. They took him off levaquin & put him on meropenim & r continuing the clyndomyacin & vancomyacin. I don’t think they know wtf to give him so they’re just opening the medicine cabinet. His coloring is pale after surgery & he’s got edema from lying around for 5 days straight.

That’s all I know for now.

Austin & I just left the hospital. When Dean heard Austins voice tonight & opened his eyes very wide, Dean smiled. It really was great to see that. A first in over 6 days. I thank Mark (Austins father for bringing him down to Lawrence) Dean came to long enough this evening to move over in his bed (nurse assisted). Dean is delirious and not making appropriate comments to nurses but his vitals are good and no temperature. Heart rate 120’s, respiration at 20 (good) BP was 144/92. Glucose was 187- they gave him insulin to bring that down. He’ll be in hospital for another solid week before talk of release. We need to see skin cellulitus (sp?) go away and sepsis go away and white blood cell count go down. Will see Dr at 9;00 am CST tomorrow and stay w/ Dean. Still no visitors folks but the cards, flowers & gifts of love and thoughtfulness are much appreciated.

we’re all pulling for you KSman – keep fighting

Things appear to be looking up. Prayers work. (good doctors help too)

Dean is sitting in a chair in his hospital room reading the news about the capping of the gulf oil spill. He’s making eye contact w/ me, smiling and talking. His coordination is a bit off but hey, I’m taking what we get. We are not out of the woods yet until his bowels wake up and he starts in w/ flatulence. But I do see all of this as a very good sign.

His heart rate is 117, BP is 133/82, respiration is 12 and the Hospitalist said his white blood cell count appears to be coming down. He still has a partial collapse on his right lung and fluid build up but if he can stay active and less sedated I’m hoping he’ll pull out of that on is own. It’s amazing how the one doctor says pneumonia and another says Atealectasis (collapse of lung) and plural efusion (wtf).

I did tell the Hospitalist that its been very frustrating in one regard and that perhaps if only one consistentand accurate diagnosis could be explained to the loved ones that it would make it much easier on us. I don’t think the Dr’s were quiet used to talking to loved ones with some medical knowledge.

I can’t say thank you enough for all of your love and care this past 5 days.

Love to all and have a wonderful weekend for me!
