I’m about to start Jim’s new Krypteia program. Unlike the first one, I think older lifers (I’m almost 56) can benefit from it. I think the key will be not going too heavy on the assistance circuits. Here’s the stuff I like:
go for a PR or don’t.
Use FSL and go for whatever reps you want (3-10). This is gold for us older guys.
Circuits are awesome! You get strength and cardio at the same time. I know I’m sounding like a crossfitter.
You can work mobility and conditioning on the off days and feel fresh.
There’s absolutely nothing not to like on this program! Jim has created another holy grail program.
I want to run this but want to keep OHP. Anyone ever have success with a M,W,F,S schedule? Im beginner/intermediate yet so i want to try to progress on a 7 day week vs 9 day.
I’ve been toying around with all three variations of kryptiea: the original, the redux, and the Rhodes version. By toying, I mean I might run a week using one setup, or even use different set ups for different lifts. I have done the original kryptiea 2 full times through, but really much more than in that I use that set up now for nearly all 531 work I do.
My thoughts:
I still like the original set up the best for most lifts. I like the rhythm of doing a main lift, and one assistance that switches every other time. For whatever reason, it clicks with me mentally.
The redux is a nice change up, but is not as enjoyable to me. I get bored doing the 5 rounds of main lift plus two of the same assistance for each circuit. To me, it takes my focus away from each lift and I find myself going through the motions with less intensity. This is no knock on the program, but more of an individual preference on my part. That said, I like this set up better for DL, and use 5x5 FSL for the circuit.
I don’t care much for the Rhodes set up. It has too much going on and too many changes during each workout. This was my least favorite, and it’s unlikely I would return to it. I like the simplicity of the “one lift” approach on the other kryptiea set ups.
