I’m week two into this program and enjoying it immensely but I just wondered how long it’s taking any of you guys to complete each workout.
I’m sticking to all the rules, not rushing any of the reps, doing the assistance work as per the book, and it really feels like I’ve worked hard but each workout’s only taking me around 25 minutes, I’m sure that will change once I get to phase two.
Once you start doing the 5x10 supplemental it gets much harder.
Once in the BBB cycles of the program, you will be pushed to finish the DL and squat workouts in 45 minutes. Also, if you are doing hard assistance, this makes finishing it more difficult in that time.
Example for today (I’m doing the program for the second time): DL on cycle two of the BBB leader phase, supersetted with 5x10 weighted pull ups (+35 lbs) and 6x10 DB incline press with 85’s DBs. It took 40 minutes, and this is working pretty hard to get it done. I’m not gasping for air or anything, but certainly sweating and not lollygagging.
The BP day is a bit easier to finish in the allotted time, and can be done in ~35 minutes.
Remember, you should be really pushing the assistance and doing the hard assistance even during the warmups. So, you are essentially doing 11 rounds of main lift+hard assistance.
Thanks for the heads up. I haven’t done high volume work for ages and this is a great change of pace. I did BBB a while back and fitting it in with tough assistance work in 45 minutes I’m sure will be a big challenge.
Quick update: I’ve just finished the squat day of the second week of cycle two and I see what you mean! Forty minutes dead on and I’m gassed. I’ve kept the BBB to 55% and, although the weight feels light, those sets of ten are tough. For week three I might up it to 60% and keep it there as I’m getting used to it. Awesome program!
