Knowing When to Cut?

How do you know when to cut? I figure i’m going to bulk up a full 100lbs before I even think of cutting. I really just don’t know when to cut do I wait till I have the ideal size in all the areas I want?

My other problem is if I do get my ideal measurement goals down i’ll just raise the bar again hence want to bulk again. I want to push myself to it’s limits in the end.

how much do you weigh?

Right now i’m 190 started out at 125. I do what I call maintence cuts for a 3-6 weeks every so often when I feel i’m getting fat so i’m guessing i’m around 15%BF. I don’t think I would even considering cutting till i’m at least 225. It’s just something that i’ve been wondering in my head as i’m the type that likes to set a clear mindset otherwise I drift off course.

In my fantasy world in my head I would like to be built like Zane would be in off season. If I get there I know i’ll just want to be even bigger it’s like a never ending cycle of growth.

Look, keep bulking until you’re either happy with your muscle size, then cut down and do bulks to get better symmetry. Or bulk until you’re so fat you can’t stand it and go for a cut. There really is no reason to plan that far in advance if you’re not sure what your goals are and what you are capable of.

How tall are you? If you are like 5’10 or taller I’d say definitely keep bulking. If you are 190 at 15% BF you would most likely look retardedly skinny if you did a real “cut”, especially if you are in that height range.

Well you got what I was saying so basicly wait till I reach the muscle size I want before cutting or I become a fat fuck. I’ve been bulking for two years not at the point to cut but was just wondering how you determine when you cut other then the fat fuck part thanks.

Well, you certainly don’t want to reach the point where your fat levels are so much higher than your muscle levels. At that point, I’d say “yes, you my friend are a fat fuck” -lol.

I like to be able to at least see the center line down my abs, not necessarily all 6 boxes, but if you overconcern yourself with the washboard, you will never eat enough to make sufficient gains. As much as you do have to overeat to a degree, you can’t force muscle growth simply with an enormous surplus of calories, it’s a little more complicated than that.

I know Layne Norton does a 4 week overeat, then a 2 week back-off, rationalizing that he is minimalizing the ‘damage’. I mentioned this once before, and am not the guy to offer any real science behind this. Still, well planned overeating can do wonders, so long as it’s within reason, and you realize that if you do put on 5 lbs in a month, it won’t be all muscle.

You don’t use the word “cut” unless you are a bodybuilder which means you own a pair of competition briefs.

Normal people diet. Diet when you feel like it.

Probably has something to do with tweaking insulin sensitivity, although 4 weeks on 2 weeks off seems a bit often.

I think it makes sense to use waist width as an indicator when to back off a little. When you literally feel uncomfortable in your pants, you have probably gone a little too far.

It shouldn’t be necessary to have bulking-clothes and cut-clothes. My personal upper limit is 36.5 inches after which there is a real and present danger for super sonic flying objects in front of me when I sit down - at least with my present wardrobe.

I am having a hard time finding the elusive sweet spot where you gain mostly lean mass so I find it easier to eat lots up until the point where the pants get tight, the cool off for a period (I just cut out one daily meal) until they fit again and continue.

Pictures would help.

I’d say go on with the bulk, but cut if you’re not happy with the way you look. It doesn’t matter if you don’t fit the ideal physique of other people- as long as you’re content with how you look

You have to remember that you’re not going to just jump up to 225 during your first bulk. You have to be somewhat realistic, and take smaller steps. Let’s say the net gain from each bulk you do yields you 5 quality lbs,… in my opinion, that’s a great gain. So, if you can get 5 lbs of quality muscle from a total of… maybe 15-20 lbs total gained (the rest being fat),… well, that’s not horrible, but at a certain point, you have to pause, tighten up a little bit, and repeat.

Been doing this it’s worked good so far. Only have 30lbs to go. Right now I just don’t see it with those extra 30lbs. I could go beyond 225 but i’ve already put on so much mass in such a short time that I don’t feel my body has fully adjusted to it. At the same time I don’t want to short change myself.

There is no magic answer, it really depends on your own tolerance.

I have a low fat tolerance, so I am willing to sacrifice significant gains in muscle in order to stay within my desired fat percentage. I only put on muscle slowly, but am fine with that.

Others are much more willing to put on some fat, in the name of gaining a greater amount of muscle.

How that tradeoff works for you is something only you can decide.
