Knockout: Avoid It!

Just noticed that almost all of the times RJJ has been KO’d/dropped he has been hit in the temple. This is especially noticeable in both the Glen Johnson and Danny Green fights.

Regardless, I still think the point of the jaw or side of the jawline yields a higher chance of knockout.

i find that reciving several fast light blows in a short amount of time knocks people on their ass more often than one huge monster punch, i have a huge tolerance to head blows but when i am getting hit repetitivly im fucked.

Never noticed that, so you can K.O. someone with a sequence of jabs?

I mean, if you stay in place to receive several jabs you are dumb. And jabs just make your head funny, nothing that would k.o., considering boxing gloves of course

With MMA gloves a jab is a big k.o. doer too

Not really. Anyways, a clean jab to the jew could just as well KO somebody as a straight right.

I was being sarcastic…as it’s “interesting” that he believes a jab can’t KO someone.

I agree with everything said in first post, there are many factors that can help you from getting Knocked the F#%$ out. What can help is

  1. Good Form
Repetition of good form when throwing power techniques. Nothing beats repedative training over and over again, hundreds to thousands of times. Where you throw perfect form on instinct and reaction. Boring I know, a lot of fighters dont have the decipline or patience to do it, thats why they end up meditating horizontally.Throwing form drills are good while you are fatigued.
Fatigue is a big part why I have seen many guys go down, throwing a technique bad form and leaving a gaurd down. Thats why as mentioned by Mancador conditioning is vital.

  2. Flight or Fight
Get your head in the fight, train yourself to go against evolutionary human reaction of flight. I teach my guys not to shy away from danger, i train them to move towards it. Suttle moment is enough to evade, but also keep you close enough to captilise on your opponents over throws. A lot of fighters have not mastered to hold fast and get the head into the fight, sometimes moving towards and closer to your opponent is your best option. A lot of strikers throw punches with their heads shying away or slightly leaning back, that leads to exposing their chin. This once again goes back to throwing with good form. There plenty of drills to train yourself into these good habits.

I know my post is a bit late, but I felt inclined to share

Never too late for a damn good post. Especially the points about not shying away from danger.

He should watch some old Tyson fights…Guys would train for months to get knocked out with a jab in just moments!

I would also like to add, don’t back up. He can come forward alot faster than you can back peddle. Also it keeps you are the range of maximum force of his strikes. If you get hurt move forward.

Lucky me, I have jaws made of something stronger than steel.

Just as easily? Hardly. The jab uses no bodyweight(when done correctly) and no pivot. A good boxer can throw a straight right with bodyweight, a pivot and by bending the right leg and driving off the ball of his foot as it pivots he can also add a load of quad power to the punch. How many guys do you see getting KO’d with a left jab? Left hook for sure but a jab is something to keep your opponent away(especially for outfighters), to get a feel for your opponent’s reach, as a feint and as a way to set up a better punch.

You can get KO’d by a jab, but only when it becomes more of a stiff jab as opposed to the flicking, range finding jab.

If you step into a stiff jab and catch the other guy coming in you can certainly knock him down, maybe KO him if he’s got a shitty chin.

Roy Jones put Trinidad down with a jab as I recall.

#1 Rule=Keep eyes on opponent

Best Way to avoid a knock out…knock yer opponent out first…
