Knife or Gun?

By the way, just in case you guys haven’t seen this… the best self-defense video ever made.

Wow, ironically I posted that video as a joke, but if you check out the 5:00 mark in this video, which is part II, Bas actually talks about which he thinks is more dangerous, a gun or a knife.

fuck yeah dude! i bought that dvd like 3 years ago, back then they only had like 30 sec clips of it up on youtube, lol.

i didn’t like the fact that he picked a much smaller guy as his training dummy though.

when i watch 2:50 - 3:00 i think of you FI

hahaha. See? I don’t know much, but I know barfighting. It’s a great trade.

For as crazy as he is, he does have some very smart shit in there.

Including, “BANG! HEADBUTT OUT OF NOTHING!” What a pimp.

Knife.

I carry one every day and have had to use it. Makes a nice little screwdriver too.

Give em the danga da danga da dang or the bong bong bong.

i’d much rather trust my life with 14rd of .45ACP than something that can be used in a pinch as a ‘nice little screwdriver’

were talking about death and destruction (and breaching doors) not playing cub scouts in the woods

A gun would be preferable but carrying one daily isn’t an option for me. I got school and work and I don’t have enough money for the pistol I want. Knife is easy, just slide it in the back pocket and it will be there when you need it. Mine is an assisted open so I only need one hand… Actually it’s this knife here. I recommend it.

IMO best pocket knife ever made…

Yeah, most of the knives I carry are really assault weapons. Ain’t nothing wrong with having a handy little Swiss army deal in your glove box, but when it comes to kill or be possibly injured you need to carry something with a little more bite. This is what I carry on a regular basis.

“I don’t believe in an eye for an eye, I believe in TWO eyes for an eye.”

lol. Go Bas!

Attacking from a distance is for COWARDS.

This is a world of cowards, so if you use a knife, or sword you will get killed.

Pulling a trigger requires no discipline, no training, no skill. Knives and swords are another story, but as I said before, this is a world of cowards.

Knives are good, because they don’t make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. Shit 'em right up. Makes it look like we’re serious. Guns for show, knives for a pro.
I can do more damage with novice level knife training with a 3.5 inch blade than most people can do with a Crocodile Dundy knife. Plus the bigger the profile the knife is the more likely you’ll get it taken from you, plus the fact that a knife over 3.5 inches you have to have a concealment permit like a gun.

As well if you have a small knife and act like it’s a fist fight and they don’t see your knife the less likely you end up dead.

I’d still rather keep a pistol. If you are worried about jamming carry an Angel King.

This is a ridiculous statement. Obviously you have never spent any time working with firearms or you would know better.

I guess I should’ve put quotations around what I wrote, considering it’s from “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels”.

But seriously, I haven’t trained drawing my pistol from a holster enough to be proficient, so I’ll take my little spyderco folder. For now.

you guys keeps using this senario, but it’s rediculous. it’s not like you’re walking down the street and BOOM, some dude charges you wielding a knife.

How the hell would you know? Sometimes it could be like BOOM some guy is charging you with a knife. Sometimes it will be STICK and you’re bleeding before you knew he had the knife.

if some guy starts threatening me, you can bet the first thing i’m doing if i’m ccw is putting space between us. and if he start closing the gap, you can bet my pistol is going to be drawn.

What if he doesn’t threaten you? What if he walks up and asks for a lighter or some change or if you know directions somewhere? That’s called “the interview.”

He could close the gap before you even realize that there’s a situation requiring space.

granted, if you DO find youself being blindsided by a guy with a knife, well it doesnt’ really matter what you chose as a sidearm at the point, does it? you’re going to get cut either way.

Yea you are. The concern is getting away from it or killing the person doing the cutting. The last is alot easier to talk about than it is to do.

I’ve said it before- you are very close minded and think very highly of yourself. Don’t think that you’re impossible to outsmart. There’s always someone bigger, stronger, faster, and more deceivingly cunning than you can imagine in this world. Whether you come across them or not is the issue.
Brilliant post, Irish! No BS this time…great post!

That’s never stopped anyone from posting in the gun threads.

huh? i was just illustrating the point that if i can pull out a stun gun from a pocket and effectivly use it against and opponent, i feel i would be able to do the same with a firearm.

It just dawned on me you may have misunderstood what I said. You realize that when I said “out of battery” I wasn’t talking coppertops? I’m talking about the slide of an auto loader being pushed slightly out of firing position resulting in a failure to fire.

Wow I mean that ranks right up there with one of the most ignorant things I have ever read. I have trained 3 different martial arts and I still go to the range and put rounds through my P220 Sig and my R700 so I don’t slip. Sambo and Judo were more physically challenging but once learned you know it, but I’m sure that means I’m a coward too. So in conclusion…NO YOU ARE!
