Forgive me for another knee complaint, but this is a little out of the ordinary. I have consistantly been lifting for six years, and I have been doing the olympic lifts for the better part of two years.
When I first began working with an olympic lifting program, I had a clicking in my right knee. This was due to cleans/snatches/front squats. Recently, it has turned into a sharp pain. I cannot squat below parallel without pain, and I haven’t been able to walk up and down stairs without pain.
However, anytime when my right knee goes below parallel, even if it is to pick something up off the floor, I have a horrible sensation in my knee that feels like swelling, this usually occurs a few hours later. I have more than adequate mobility in my hips and ankles.
Furthermore, I have a long torso and short legs. Also, I always take my time warming up, and I use a variety of pre-hab and complementary exercises that will keep my joints healthy. However, I have no clue how to approach this. Please give me some input. Thanks…
The way to approach this is to go to a doctor. Nobody on an internet forum can accurately diagnose a problem like this, and if they act like they know exactly what’s wrong, they’re full of shit.
The other option would be to let it rest and heal, and then see if you can lift without pain.
I have similar knee pain, but it isn’t chronic (sounds like yours is). I find warming up with light weight helps me, but some days, even that won’t help and I just have to train around it. I will go to a doctor if mine ever limits me–so far, it’s just annoying–rarely painful to the point of stopping what I’m doing.
I had similar issues last year and the clicking and pain you describe is almost identical. I went to a doc which I highly reccomend an MRI showed a medial meniscus tear.
Unfortunately for me rehab wasnt an option and surgery was suggested to repair and prevent further damage. Recently had surgery back in September and have gotten back into lifting. No pain on the level I had before and although still healing I’ve been pleased with the progress. Best of luck bro.
I am going through the same thing right now. The clicking, the severe pain, and I can feel stuff moving in my knee when i bend it. It’s been really depressing and has kept me out of the gym.
I finally made an appointment at a sports medicine facility for tomorrow morning. I’m glad this thread was started because I wasn’t considering an MRI but I will ask for one now for sure.
