Kimbo vs. Mercer?

Yea I heard he was training at FFA in Miami. I ment to go and check that place out for a day, but ended up getting sunburn. Really didnt feel like rolling with strangers with the sunburn. Down fall is when I go to another school from out of state usually I am the target. Didnt want to do that with the sunburn

I can’t wait to see Kimbo’s ass get pummeled. I wonder if he’s going to try to take Mercer to the mat. Hmm, might be interesting. Merciless has far more skill, and accuracy and power.

Anyone know stats on these guys?

MOD, any way we can get a pole going here?

Has Mercer been training on the ground at all? Granted Kimbo’s ground skills are somewhere between newb and retard, but I can’t see a little take down defence hurting. I ask because the only way I see Kimbo not getting killed is if he does a charge to takedown after the bell a la Kevin Randleman.

Apparently Kimbo has been training with Randy and Bas at Legends gym, and Bas will be his corner for the fight. Here’s what Bas had to say about Kimbo over at Sherdog:
OK guys, I have to say something here.

I am training Kimbo right now, and I have to say that he is one of the BEST fighters I have EVER trained. He really listens to you and does what you say, do you know how hard that it? If he’s dead tired, and I tell him five more rounds, he looks at me, but doesn’t say anything, he just does it.
I entroduced him to the Bas Rutten MMA workout, he was SO tired, he told me that he has never been as tired. Today I was teaching him again, he asked me in the beginning “Are we ging to do the Bas Rutten workout?” But he said it in a crazy way, so I asked him “Do you want to do it?”. He said “Please, yes!” I asked him why, because all my PROFESSIONAL fighters don’t want to do it.
He said “Bas, I want to conquer this thing, I want to do it!” Man, he gets, Lots, and losts of respect!

All the shit that people write about him, I am telling you, and I hope you know I don’t lie, he’s a trooper! I wish that all my fighters would be like him. Even my wife loves the guy. He is SO respectful and uses NO bad language in front of kids (my two little daughters love him, and they don’t like anybody!), I am REALLY, blown away.

He really deserves this, I think this. Can a boxer be a MMA FIGHTER? We all know the answer, but can a street fighter be an MMA fighter? We all KNOW the answer to that!

I would wish that all my fighters were like him, like I said, I can put him through every workout I give him, he WILL do it, no questions asked.

I hope you guys meet Kimbo one day, you will be blown away. I just came back from an MMA event and I brought him there, just see how he is with the fans, it’s crazy!

You also know that I would NEVER train an asshole, so trust me, but he’s got me, Shawn Tompkins (who trained him longer than I have,) and Randy Kathami (boxing coach for my gym) respect. I REALLY love the guy.

El Guapo says:

Party one and Godspeed!!
Well, I love Bas and Randy, and give them both all the respect in the world. So, I’ve got to take him seriously when he says Kimbo is a hard working guy with potential.

Unfortunately, Kimbo still only has a chance if he takes it to the ground. Well, I suppose he’s got a puncher’s chance as well, but everyone’s got that. Mercer is a great boxer, and he’s been in some of my favorite bouts, plus, I like him and the fact that he’s willing to do something like this at near 50. That shows heart. I hope Ray KOs him.

But, if Kimbo manages a takedown, then Ray is going to be in BIG BIG trouble, unless he’s trained defense. Newb vs. untrained on the ground, I’m gonna go with the newb (Slice) for the majority. Any exp. vs no exp is an easy call with ground fighting and takedowns.

'Course, I kinda hope Mercer has been training ground and surprises everybody just because I like him as a fighter. But I’m hoping for world peace too.

what the hell is the ffa in miami? close to the turnpike or 95?

This is a little slighted but I wish Kimpbo would please shave the rest of his head… someone please get him one of those yellow skull razors… it looks as if he is wearing one of those caps you get for holloween

Oh… and just wondering… what gives this guy and credibility to fight someone as Mercer… I mean he is posted on the internet…

And is someone charging people to see this???

MMA is a Professional Sport not to be mocked by clowns

FFA is an MMA school. I believe Chainsaw Charles McCarthy trains there, TUF Newbs should know him.

I wonder if Kimbo can kick, lol. I’m still embarassed for Merciless Mercer’s amazing kickboxing debut where he quit after 15 seconds.

Haven’t seen the video of that yet. Amazing it was.

You should probably expect world peace then because there is NO WAY IN HELL that Mercer hasn’t been busting his ass on the ground almost exclusively for an MMA fight since he just needs to maintain his standup if not completely ignore it and be half as good.

Freestyle Fighting Academy

You can find the address & phone number on their horribly disorganized webpage.

You highly, highly, HIGHLY overestimate Mercer’s desire at this point. He’s 50 years old, out of shape, and desperately in need of money. Just watch his K-1 fight up above. You think Ray is pumped up enough for this to train at all? I would be surprised if he’s even been to an MMA gym.

Kimbo will probably take this to the ground and win. I’ve read he’s been training with Bas Rutten and is taking the training very seriously. Mercer however, you’ve got to question his desire at his age He’s probably gonna get beat down.

That kick to Mercers head in the video actually looks like he had a shin bone laid across the side of his neck. I bet it did take all the fight out of him, he didn’t look to be in that great of a shape to begin with.

If Kimbo has been training like Bas says I don’t think it’s going to be good for Mercer. Kimbo does come across as a person with a good work ethic, so I believe what Bas wrote.

When I watch vids from Mercer’s boxing days you can see his determination to finish and to put up a fight.
When I watch those K-1 bouts I see no heart and no will power to push himself.
Makes me wonder if he is going to wear his boxing shoes to the MMA bout w/ Kimbo.

Mercer: Coming to receive a paycheck

Kimbo: Going in to beat some ass and get some “cheedah”

Hmmmmmmm, I’m keepin’ my bettin’ money in ma pocket!

WOOOOOOAHHH. Just the other day I watched all the clown fights involving Kimbo and whatever fat loser decided it was his day to get bloody. Being from Miami, I know exactly the mentality of the garbage that rolls around in that town.

But after reading and watching Kimbo and Bas (as well as Mercer’s embarrassing K-1 fight), I have a whole new respect for the guy.

If I had money I’d put it all on Kimbo, no doubt.
