If Kimbo wants to survive in mma he’s gonna really have to work on his conditioning and technical skills. He’s got a pathetic ground game. He was totally at Thompson’s mercy in the guillotine and on the ground. And I think the ref prematurely stopped the fight… Thompson was getting pounded but he was still standing.
dude wtf do you expect from a guy who just started mma training last year? thompson has been training for almost a fuckin decade.
kimbo has NO grappling experience whatsoever prior to working with bas.
relax kid, im sure kimbo’s pathetic ground game is not something you’d fuck with.

I just finished watching all 3 rounds and my decision was that was bs. Kimbo showed no technical skills at all. In round 2 Thompson delivered 25 elbows straight (yes 25, according to Wikipedia) to Kimbo’s face while Kimbo was on the ground. The ref didn’t stop the fight but instead made both fighters stand… wtf? That last decision was controversial as hell.
Agreed I was pissed when that didnt get ended and then the ref ends it in kimbos favor.
if you guys want to watch a fighter who has potential and could be a contender then look toward brock lesnar,Now I know he lost his first fight but he looked good untill he got caught.having the wrestling backgroung he has (not WWE) he will pick up JJ fairly fast and learn a defense. If he puts some things together he could be a great fighter.
All this speculation is funny as eff. You just watched the myth of kimbo exposed…the curtain has been lifted. They are pimping him now, and they will pimp him until they lift his skirt for the last time and he is no longer a “contender”. He’ll make some money that he would never have made in the process so its a fair exchange.
If he had fought anyone decent, he’d have been still picking up his teeth and pieces of skull off the mat. The elbows Thompson was delivering looked like he was playing patty cake. 4 good elbows would have put him under. The fight was a joke.
I’m starting to believe Dana White when he said Kimbo couldn’t beat a much smaller BJ Penn. Wait, no, I’m sure I believe that. He couldn’t beat BJ or any other middle weight contender, let alone a heavyweight.

you really think lesner can be efficient at BJJ? lol.
He’ll be a contender, for sure. But his strength lies in his wrestling and GNP. he’ll never armbar anyone.
you wanna see know upcoming talent?
dong hyun kim
Mousasi
What makes you think we couldnt armbar someone,Thats a pretty easy move.now he will probably never put anyone in a gogoplata but how often does that happen anyway. With his wrestling background I think he will be able to learn the basics fairly fast and come back with a better defense.
Besides I was talking a heavywieghts not welter wieghts.
Sorry, I thought this Elite XC CBS deput was really bad. Too much like WWF in my opinion with girls and fireworks and idiot fighters dancing all the way to the cage. And the refs stopped the fights too early. Lawler was stupid for not ending the fight when he had a chance…looked really cocky to me. I will never watch Elite XC again unless they make some drastic changes. From 1-10, I give it a 0.
Kimbo Slice is a long way from being a good fighter, and his power is way overrated. He didn’t knock Thompson down once, and landed countless clean shots. I didn’t see the whole card, but this was one of the worst fights I’ve ever seen. Thompson was laying on top of an exhausted Slice and had no juice left to do anything but rub his elbow on his head.
People who’ve never watched an MMA fight before and see this as representation of the sport will never watch it again. Also, what was up with Thompsons ear? That is the worst cauliflowering I’ve ever seen. It didn’t look like that the last time I saw him fight.
I think Kimbo is slop–he has decent punching power, but he is anything but “well-rounded” as some are saying. Yes–he knows he needs to be in the guard…but that was about it. All I saw was he now knows how to use the guard and how to guillotine choke…kinda. His punches, while powerful I’m sure, were slow as hell.
Kimbo should thank God he has Bas in his corner. Bas is a godsend through his training, his mental conditioning, and his marketing.
That said, I will give Kimbo one more shot. He actually had to make it past the third round, so he knows what it is like to be tired.
I would prefer if the stupid ghetto BS stayed at MTV though and didn’t soil my beloved MMA.
I don’t really know enough to post in this section but thought you guys might get a kick out of this. It’s the Wikipedia entry for Cauliflower Ear and this quote made me laugh:
“One of the most notable cases of Cauliflower ear affecting a professional match was in James Thompson Vs. Kimbo Slice on EliteXC’s CBS promotion, where Kimbo Slice used Thompson’s ear as a safety net to get out of the fight.”

I don’t consider either of them to be exceptionally good or refined fighters…but I’d really enjoy a Kimbo vs. Lesnar fight for some reason.

You’d “enjoy it” because these are two highly hyped fighters. So, naturally you want to see them clash. But in reality Kimbo would be no match for the National Wrestling champion Brock Lesner. If it were not for Frank Meirs exceptional submission skills Lesner would have beaten him as he was certainly ahead in the fight before the submission.
Kimbo Slice is an anomaly who will continue to win as long as they do not put him against anyone of his size who can actually fight. Until then enjoy the side show, but never under any circumstances think that Slice could ever rank anywhere near the top fighters in the world. He does not have and will never have the high level skills.
Actually, I don’t care for either one, and don’t really buy into the kimbo hype at all. I think Lesnar would beat him mercilessly when he held him on the ground. Maybe that’s why I like the idea, just to see Kimbo beaten down…

Personally I’ll enjoy it because I’ll hope to see an evolution of his skills as he continues his training with Bas.
While it certainly wasn’t world class he definetly demonstrated skills against Thompson. He couldn’t take a Lesnar now but in time who knows…thats what’s intriguing to me. Kimbo didn’t have years of training before deciding to compete…he entered with what he had. It’ll be interesting to see how good he gets…not how far he goes.

You’ve already seen it.
Possibly…His next fight if rogers takes it to the ground will answer that…with the guidance of Bas Rutten theres a good chance he will show improvement…if he can take the knowledge in and apply it at this stage is another thing.
I personnaly hope he continues a good run. It interests me to see the evolution of a fighter…the Thompson fight sets the base to judge by.
I seriously think some people here are on crack. The idea that anyone could believe Kimbo will someday be a high level fighter is absurd. He is 34 years old. He has zero background in any combat discipline. He has no bjj, Judo, wrestling, boxing, MT, etc. All he has is a winning record against bums off the street. And it is not without a blemish as Gannon beat him even with a 30 count.
Would anyone expect a 34 year old man to be become a top pro at any sport starting from ground zero? Let’s see, will he ever have the ground game to beat Nog? No, as by the time Kimbo would have black belt level BJJ, assuming he even had the potential, he would be in his 40s. Could he ever have the wrestling ability of Coleman or Couture? No, for the same reasons. His stand up is horrible and he won’t turn into Cro Cop in a year or two. So even if (and that’s a big if) he has the potential within himself to reach a high level of skill in at least one of the various disciplines it will take MANY years for him to get there. Kimbo is a joke.
