I really can’t get behind the whole “comes from the street” sentiment that so many people hold for Kimbo. While I agree that the fights he had always had an element of organization, you’ve got to assume that a bareknuckle brawler from the ghetto has had his day in clubs and bars and in the streets… but you can’t get that crap on tape.

Elite XC seems to be a pro wrestler trapped in a MMA fighter’s body. Lots of drama, but little action to back it up.
Lesnar/Mir is going to be awesome. Frank seems to have the number for brawlers. Mir by armbar late in the first round.
And, for the love of God, please, PLEASE someone get Bill Goldberg away from the microphone. Bill, I love you, you are a big, strong guy, but you suck as an announcer.

I don’t think he’s the street brawler everyone plays him out to be…when you watch his youtube fights he actually had strategy. I also find it interesting that he received an academic scholarship to Univ. of Miami rather than athletic…he actually seems to be intelligent. Also I wonder why he hasn’t trainind with his supposed cousin,Rhadi Ferguson:

Mike annoys me almost as much as Bill. He says some really ridiculous things just about every time he opens his mouth. When he really nails one there is often a long pause and Rogan doesn’t say anything because he is probably shaking his head.
I miss Bas and Mauro from the old Pride days. Best commentating ever, even with Mauro’s “Production Values” comments every 12 seconds.

Both checked into the hospital after the fight, which lasted ten minutes with no rounds. Kimbo understood it to be a bare-knuckle boxing match, but Gannon exploited some loopholes in their rules and used knees and standing chokes. That was a very controversial fight.
The tank/kimbo fight was pulled after a sponsor backed out.
Since the gannon/kimbo fight gannon went on to the UFC and got crushed. I know kimbo started trainging with randy courtures (sp?) camp for a (think it was a) year hence the “refined” skills.
Kimbo refers to his street fighting days as a totally different fighter. The whole “street fighter” angle is just a gimmick that I’m sure will be played up for some time (a single “yo” for his press conference before cantrell).
Either way I can’t believe he’s only 33. And his real name is Kevin Furgison. Kimbo is so much more intimidating lol.
While we’re revealing real names I just found out Johnny Knoxvilles real name is Phillip Clapp. Yea I have no life.
This wasnt kimbos official MMA fight either. He tapped out Mercer a couple months ago.

The Mercer fight was an exhibition.
The fight with Cantrell was his ‘official’ MMA debut.
I must be from a weird area. Where i’m from street fighters like to win fights, and grow up learning how to do things like throw punches and wrestle. Not all of them, but the best ones do. Actually some of my friends knew how to box before I could ride a bike(no I didn’t learn at 20). So I wouldn’t expect kimbo not to have a few refined skills. Specially since he’s making an attempted living off this.
And that fight against gannon, maybe I need to watch again, but it looked like he was winning the fight until he ran out of gas. That’s not getting your ass kicked, that’s just realizing now you have to do a little bit more to win fights then you had before.

No, he is actually a very intelligent guy, and went to Miami U on an academic scholarship. He has sucessfully constructed enormous hype and popularity for himself by posting some free videos on the internet, he’s not an idiot. He realizes everything that is going on and how to take advantage of the public for his benefit.
