Killer_kicks88 Lifting and BJJ Log

Well, here I am. I’ve been reading T-nations articles and forums for years now, time to take the plunge. I’ve been lifting a little over a year. Current Stats as follows.

21y/o
161lbs.
5’7"
Front Squat - 225
Deadlift - 365
Bench - 225
Overhead Press - 125

I followed a 3 times per week FBT routine, then moved to 5/3/1. I practice BJJ 5-10 times a week and have had my blue belt for exactly one year. 2 days ago my arm got snapped very severely in training, that’s where this log comes in. I need the inspiration of others going through the same kind of stuff. Today I started 20 rep squats without any assistance lifts because my arm is basically useless. 135lbs. as a first time weight because I don’t back squat and was unsure of my strength there. I’ll have the video up of all of my workouts including todays, shortly. Thanks!

That’s my first time doing back squats in over a year and my first time ever doing 20 reps. It was lighter than my 10 rep max in hindsight, so I’ll make a 20lbs. jump on Friday.

Today’s food log.

Protein shake and whole wheat bagel. 4 eggs and whole wheat bagel. 1/2 Gallon of 2% milk. 2 protein shakes with Gator-aid powder = 50 grams of protein and 50 grams of sugar each, one pre and one post workout. 2 large porkchops. 1 Large little caesars pizza. Some cottage before bed.

Last Fridays workout. - YouTube 155lbs. 21 reps. I stalled on the 10th rep because I looked at the ground to make sure I put on the right plates, it felt really light (read: I’m retarded). I also played around with some really light inclines and BORs, just trying out the elbow. I’ve been one armed grappling pretty intensely too, so we’ll see how it affects this whole 20 rep squat gig. I also have video of todays workout, uploading right now.

Nice lifts dude. Now, go eat something. May want to invest in some real shorts though. Do you intend on maintaining a weight class for the BJJ, or are you open to gaining weight for the sake of lifting?

I’ve always stayed around 149-152 for competing. I got myself a little heavier, but have still been competing around 150. I’m finally ready to take some time off from competing and training a LITTLE less so I can gain some pounds. Don’t worry, I’m eating :). I’ve been getting about 300-400 grams of protein a day. Drinking a half gallon of milk on non lifting days and a gallon on these bastard 20 rep squat days.

I’ve gone from 161 last wednesday to 166 yesterday and today. shooting for around 185, then a small cut. I really don’t want to compete with the 200 pounders, though I wouldn’t mind being that size myself.

Lifts today.

squats - 1x20 - 175lbs.

OHP - 5x10 - 75lbs.

pullps - 2x10 - 15lbs. - 3x10 - BW

Just trying out the elbow. It felt pretty good. Didn’t want to lock out at first on the OHP but it loosened up gradually and I was able to fully extend. 20 pound jumps every squat workout so far. I think I’m only gonna move up 10lbs. next time. Today was tough.

Today.

Back Squat - 185lbs. - 1x20

Bench - 135lbs. - 7x3 - 1x7

BOR - 135lbs. - 7x3 - 1x13

A few sets of some isolation stuff (curls, tris, rear delts) with the 25’s. Elbow felt a little iffy, building back up slowly.

Cool man. Keep up the hard work. Those squats will get easier once your torso thickens up a bit.
