Carlitosway: I have a BodySolid leg exten. On order ![]()
Anonym: It was a gym geared to non hardcore lifters hence the room in back for serious lifters
Jasmincar: I just started to lift.
Hungry: you are 1 thick mofo, I will sir.
Pushharder: The name says it all, when you pushharder there will be some form of a primal grunt.
I don’t believe the grunting is ‘real’ if the guy does it the same way for each rep starting from the first rep and he seems to stop at…guess how many!..Yes, EIGHT reps.
I call bullshit on that kind of grunter.
When I grunt it doesn’t come till near the end obviously , and each grunt is not tailor made to sound like the one before.

i.e. it’s a sound of exertion and not just some noise to attract attention … I do the same thing
Look, without posting wav. files of the sounds we make, this is just going to turn into another thread where guys that grunt too much think the other side are a bunch of pussies and the non-grunters think the grunters are douches.
Let me reiterate. if a guy is making the exact same noise starting at the first rep and he stops at an even number like 8 or 10, then I call that bullshit grunting, as in not necessary.
The OP is fine because he’s doing a heavy weight.
I’ve yet to see the kind of grunting I described combined with respectable weight being lifted.
Wow, and here I was thinking that Gold’s Gym was hardcore or something. From the golden era you know? I Remember hearing the coxswain for the Canadian Olympic rowing team say that they get taught not to show anything on their face because the effort is in their muscles not their face. When I lift a heavy weight I cant help but distort my face a bit, along with a good healthy grunt.

Horseshit.
Problem with this approach is what if we have another bodybuilder of equal or greater status who says the opposite? (I bet I could find plenty of 'em)[/quote]
No it’s not. He is in Qc doing personal training now. And I have found out that -personally- when I am really focused on lifting the weight I dont grunt. I only do it when subconsciously I want people to watch me and the weight I can lift
Grunting is cool when your moving a respectable amount of weight, and actually doing a real lift (by that I mean squat, bench & deadlift.) If I see a guy grunting on the pec deck, or doing preachur curls ill LOL a tiny bit.
I think for some the grunting comes with a legitimately hard effort to get weight up. If that’s the case, nothing wrong with that. The douches are the posers who grunt to get attention or for some other reason, regardless, not for the right reason. There are certain tell-tale signs of a poser’s grunt. But not everybody needs to (or at least doesn’t think they need to, which is arguable). In the end, if you focus on what you’re doing like you’re supposed to, it shouldn’t matter what others are doing (unless they’re about to drop a weight on you or something, one of the few exceptions).

Yepper. I only grunt on the big 3. I used to grunt for every rep in an 8 rep set and got told off by the big guys at the gym. Now I only grunt (only need to as well) on my max lifts.
On the plus side I picked up a cool nickname though “One Grunt”. People who I never knew seen at parties and said “Hey! Its One Grunt!”. Good times ![]()
I scream like a bitch on my lifts over 95% or so. A good scream at the top of my lungs on the way up from the bottom of the clean gets me psyched for the jerk. It also seems to prevent mid clean+jerk dizzyness too. hmm. Also i dont give a fuck what i look like to anyone else when i lift. I got in shit for dropping the bumper plates on a rubber platform the other day at a commercial gym tho:
Her: “you cant drop the weights”
Me: “even these ones that are designed to be dropped on this rubber platform”
Her: “yeah”
Me: “no problem”
I admire her balls to come and talk me out of it. Helped that she was nice and a girl. If it were some squirt nerd i would have been a dick just to amuse myself at that time of morning.

Silly fucks, GRUNTS ARE FOR CUNTS! (on the tennis court that is)
Grunt only if it comes naturally and you are struggling with the weight, never tell yourself “I’m gonna grunt”. If anything It should be a representation of how hard your body and mind are working, like on the last 1 or 2 reps near failure or going for a max. Grunting and giving up are somewhat similar, most often it is a choice made by the individual to grunt or give up. BUT If you are really pushing yourself to max weight/reps, then either one may happen NATURALLY. So let* it happen dont make* it happen.
I see my friends brother grunting for sets of 8-12 ON EVERY FUCKING REP, doing DB shoulder presses with 35lbs, I thought it was cute. The biggest guys I’ve ever seen dont grunt when their pushing some pretty heavy weights, I do what they do.
who the fuck cares. its just a human noice.
Where I lift it is acceptable to give a hearty yell during and even after you hit a pr. Hit 440x 5 on back squat yesterday and you better believe i was shouting, if you take this stuff seriously then why not be pumped up? We also have an “easy” button you “hit” after you doing something that probably wasn’t that easy. Barking and even getting stroked across the face before a heavy lift is common place. Intensity and Enthusiasm is contagious!

Hey florelius!
NYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!11111111111
THIS IS MY HUMAN VOICE SCREAMING IN YOUR FACE!!!1!1111
That wouldnt be pleasant would it?
On the other hand, I feel that a gym is one of few appropriate places to grunt in public.
Where’s the Bowflex? No gym is complete without the Bowflex.

its a difference between grunting and screaming.
when someone lifts a lift they found heavy they might make some noise or breath loud. as an example today some guy really grunted when he did reversed flyes, at first I found it weird he would be grunting that much from a 10pound DB, but then I thougt that maybe it was hard for him. Not every guy who workout is a pro, some people go to the gym because they are in bad shape not because they are in shape. If everyone was born in supershape there wouldt be that many gyms.
to the OP.
I envy your gym, you lucky son of a gun ![]()
Thanks Florelius, Now I can grunt as loud as I want.
