Kevin Levrone - fastest man alive?

“not that far off from some elite sprinters” Most elite sprinters that I know of weigh in the low 80 kgs (low 180lbs). Greene, boldon etc weigh about 180-185. Montgomery weighs about 160 i think. The heaviest ‘elite’ sprinter Ive seen is Linford Christie who was still only 96kgs,(210 pounds i think) and he was mammoth compared to everyother sprinter ive seen.

I trained with Bruny Surin some times last summer and he was over 200lbs. But I was just saying that at a bodyweight of 220lbs or so, Levrone would not be grossly overweight to do well on a sprint, especially a 60m

I would be suprised if this event actually takes place.

Thank you
Coach Hale

What time is this taking place? I live near Orange Coast College. I will give you a full report, hell I’ll video these freaks if you want. WHen is it?

Just a couple of points about your post, no flame intended. Levrone is “only” the second or third best bodybuilder in the world training 2 or 3 months out of the year. Can you imagine him if he actually tried? Second as to the sprinter not using drugs, when Ben Johnson got caught using drugs at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 after setting a world record, a lot people said that the only thing Johnson did wrong/different from the other competitors was that he got caught. Drug use is alive and well in big time track and field. Just my 2 cents, no flame.

LMAO. I was actually thinking about going to this also. Dec. 11 at OCC huh? That would be Wednesday. Wonder what time it starts.

Here is the last paragraph of the article. Hoax?

"The race is scheduled for 2 PM on December 11. Please do not contact the college regarding this event. We'll report the outcome online the following day."

BTW, the article is at Flex online.

Tape the event! Maybe T-mag will agree to serve as a temporary host to a DivX’d version of the race, in which case all you’d have to do is rip it, divX it, and e-mail it to T-mag.

Regardless of all the talk about Kevin Levrone’s “amazing” genetics, lets not forget that world class sprinters also have “amazing” genetics.
Levrone may be very muscled in the lower legs through his years of training, but it is probably not the right type of training for sprinting. He obviously has significant hypertrophy of the major sprinting muscle groups, but what he is most likely lacking is the speed endurance that elite sprinters have. Take a look at the splits of elite sprinters in the 100m, they have 3 acceleration periods throughout the race. So while levrone may be very quick out of the blocks due to huge squatting poundages or various olympic lifts, I highly doubt he will have the speed endurance to keep up with an elite sprinter. Additionally, 4.13 in the 40 yard dash is far from an impressive time for an elite sprinter. Ben johnson was clocked at 3.7 in the 40. The caveat is 40’s are hand timed and thereby have a margin of error, but not almost half a second. I vote hands down he gets blown away in the last 60 meters of the race.

At 60 meters Levrone might have a shot although I say he will fade after the first 30. I have heard, in fact I think there was even a study done at one of the olympics from years past, that o-lifters and throwers were even faster than most sprinters over 20 meters because the beginning is mostly explosive strength where max strength plays a larger part.

Kelly, that is true that olympic lifters and throwers are very quick off the line, and the first 20 meters. That is because their training is completely centered around producing 3 seconds of power. Additionally they are genetic freaks, walking fast twitch athletes. I wouldn’t put levrone into this catagory because he hasn’t been doing power training for the same amount of time that these olympic lifters and throwers have been. In addition, most elite sprinters train with the olympic lifts, which should help to negate some of the quickness difference that has been demonstrated in the past.

I would put Levrone in the same freakish category as elite o-lifters, throwers, and such. The guy is a freak and I’m sure if he trained seriously for any sports such as those he’d succeed rather well.

The event is just a few hours away (allegedly), anyone going? Anyone gonna tape it?

Some coach, either Poliquin or Staley once told me that the fastest man they ever saw over 30 yards was a hammer thrower…I think Levrone won’t be able to compete after the 50m mark, if he can hang at all.

TAPE IT!!!

its almost 4, did it happen?

Hopefully DARK RENEGADE or someone else is going and will video tape it for us - if it even happens.

Well who won fellas?

Anyone know what happened?

Nothing new on flex online. My guess is they didn’t go through with it, or someone copped out with an injury.
