Kettlebells From NY Barbell?

Does anyone own or have experience with the kettlebells from NY Barbell? The price on these kettlebells is substantially cheaper than your standard kettlebell. The shape of the NY kettlebell is a little different but nothing too drastic.

Why do you want kettlebells? Hopefully you’re not a bodybuilder. In that case, they’d make a good ornament.

I thought this fad was over…

I’d probably go with powermax kettlebells instead of NY Barbells ones if price was a big issue.

A fad? just like barbells and dumbbells are just a fad then. Kettlebells are even older than barbells or dumbbells. On that note, when is the heavy rock or bodyweight fads going to stop. Those methods obviously couldnt be effective as we have barbells and dumbbells.

I dont understand the anti-kettlebell stance most take on here. I use all sorts of training and find kettlebells to be very productive. I guess its because people hate other sports or anything thing else that dont do/arent good enough at.

I guess if all you do is hate on kettlebells without having tried them you should head on over to elitefts and read up. All the new “fad” training ideas that you can read about here like westside barbell are used over there…along with kettlebells.

Read my post again. I said they were crap IF HE WAS A BODYBUILDER because they would be. I know plenty of other athletes and MMA fighters that use them but I sure as hell don’t see Ronnie and Jay pumping away with em. Why? Because it’s a waste of money. Bodybuilders just need to stimulate and grow. Enough said.

Ok, so how is it a fad again? Please don’t say it’s because a few T-Nation writers said so…

Like all fads it was pretty big at one time due to all the hype and is now slowing dieing out.

I remember when they called running and weight lifting a fad.

You’re right. The Olympic lifts, and kettlebell lifts are just one-arm versions of the Olympic lifts, provide no muscle stimulation whatsoever. Olympic lifters are all a bunch of skinny wusses with no muscle mass at all. I mean, who would want to look like David Rigert?

Go here for some of the cheapest KBs as well as dirt cheap shipping. I don’t know how they swing the shipping - $7 for weights under 32 kg and $13 for >32. One word of warning - they don’t keep many KBs in stock. I order two around May 1 and they just shipped them out a few days ago. But if you don’t mind waiting 6 weeks you can’t beat the prices.

Well, if you want to get pissy, go ahead. I also fail to see how its crap for a bodybuilder. One arm snatches and swings are excellent for both staying lean and hamstring development. You can also have great gains in your shoulders and triceps with them.

I happen to find KB overhead pressing easier on my shoulders than BB and more productive than dumbbell pressing. If you need development in those muscles, I strongly recommend push pressing a bell you cant or can barely press for moderate reps. you’ll see big gains.

That being said, the original poster was asked for advice on a brand of KB’s, not your opinion on them as a whole. Dont like them? fine, start a new thread or re-visit an old one.

Hahaha, didn’t intend to stir any bad vibes with this thread. Just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with a cheaper kettlebell on the market. No worries though, I appreciate all the feedback.

Mike the Bear; thanks for that link. That’s a real good price.

If your looking for ultra cheap you could have a look at kettlestack plate loaded ketttlebells (they were reviewed on this site a while back). Although the link Mike the Bear gave is incredibly cheap.

If anyone is interested I went from a bodyweight of 73kg to my current 91kg with nothing but two adjustable KBs and a pullup bar. Whilst I am certainly no Colossus now I think that kbs can be used to build muscle.
