Ketosis

To to Chris, Tc, Bill or anyone who would know,I am currently doing something that resembles a cross between the t-dawg diet and the anabolic diet. But in both of the articles it says that you shouldnt enter ketosis or ketogenesis whatever it is called please correct me, but for the hell of it i went out and bought some Ketostix and every time i use them (except for on the weekend) Im somewhere between 80mg/dl-160mg/dl. i usually take it about three times a day once in the morning once before i lift and once before bed. my energy is great i seem to actually be putting on muscle, o i am also doing the german body comp program maybe thats why i could be putting muscle on i have been eating between 1500-2500 but never really going as high as 2500 somewhere in the middle. I am 17 weigh 230lbs (or did i weigh 227 now) about 6’0-6’1 with a bf % from 12-15. any suggestions or comments? your help is greatly appreciated. the only supps im taking is fich oil caps and ribose mixed with some methoxy and whey protien after lifting.thanks

im not too familiar with Ketostix, but i remember bill addressed them in a previous post. he said (and if this is wrong, please correct me) that they only measure ketones in the urine, which is a useless measurement. essentially, he said they are worthless.

in terms of your diet, id aim for some more consistency with your daily caloric intake. 1000 calories is a lot when you are dieting. at least if you hit some level of consistency, you can make adjustments accordingly.

also, you may want to look into getting some folic acid. read the q&a regarding the tdawg diet. good luck.

There is nothing wrong with entering ketosis, but you may not necessarily have to be in full-blown ketosis to reap benefits. Also, it doesn’t matter whether your sticks show light purple or very deep, the light purple is just as good.

I did keto diet with a great success during 6 weeks and then switched to T-Dawg style with less success. I felt like shit in the first couple of days and great afterwards. I even increased my strength. Keto diets are not for everybody, they are just current “fad of the day” and most bodybuilders don’t go keto, just drop their carbs very low and perhaps switch to very low carb intake (50 g or less per day) before competition. I don’t think you are putting on muscle, you just lost a lot of subcutaneous water and maybe some fat, so you are a lot leaner. Another thing is that you have to be careful about muscle wasting, especially if you are natural. One day you could wake up being soft all over… they say that ketosis spares muscle, maybe it does, but, again, calories in - calories out… and the body likes to eat muscle for glucosis a lot. Remember that you are in ketosis even when Ketostix/Ketoglur is white, there are different levels of glucosis and those tests are pretty useless. Remember also that eating less than 50-100 g carbs per day can cause various imbalances in your body and decrease Testosterone production, so it would be wise to incorporate a carb up day. I could carb up every Sunday at 4500 kCal, 800 g carbs without detrimental effect on the carb loss. I think that for a natural athlete, two day carbup general recommendation could be too much, so I did it only at Sundays. Right now I wouldn’t do keto diets anymore, I think that keeping carbs in 100-150 g range is just about enough. Another thing to consider is your insuline resistance. Generally, I think that insuline resistant people do good on keto diets and feel OK because their blood sugar levels are more or constant when carb intake is restricted. This could be a useful guideline for you in the future. Please feel free to ask anything you might want to know because I think I am sort of expert when it comes to keto diets.

I had a slight brain glitch, it should be “fat loss” and not “carb loss”…

Thank you for replying, i did forget to mention that i do take folic acid and i do carb up on the weekend since thats what the anabolic diet calls for. I have had no reduction in strength actually i feel i have more energy then i ever had before unless i dont eat anything for breakfast before school then i start to feel lowsy after a few hours. My muscle hardness in my chest and legs is much hard (Maybe from fat loss)but other then when i dont eat i feel better then when not on this diet. Any suggestions that u guys have are great Sasa thank for the tips i would love to hear any other things u have to say about keto diets since they make me feel good and seem to work. Thanks.

Any other comments?
