Keep the damn kids off the lawn

I got close but missed a 585lb pull today, after box squatting. I’m going to catch you soon.

(^motivation to kick extraordinary ass tomorrow^)

WTF is ‘I got close but missed’, huh? either you make a lift or you don’t. Did you also ‘almost’ get laid last weekend? you’re not gonna ‘just miss’ passing the bar exam are you?

Ha ha, motivation appreciated.

Thanks all, belly full, movie off of ‘on demand’ (The Fighter), equipment compiled and packed, food prepped and ready. Now to get some sleep and go and have a good fucking time moving some weight around.

I swear Pete, allow me my optimism, fine, I MISSED IT DAMMIT lol

haha glad I coudld help.

And dammit, I am gonna destroy the bar exam, give me a couple years to destroy law school first.

Sitting here getting ready to take my son to weigh in for his wrestling meet. Thought I would send some good vibes yor way, Pete. Tear shit up today!

short version: got 661 on bench on third, was good for more. dorked out hardcore on the deadlift, 672 opener got but missed on technical error, 705 my head was buried to far up my ass to complete. tried it twice. learning lesson is not to jump into a meet in gear that you have only had three sessions to get (un)comfortable in.

awesome day though, had a blast, and all for an excellent cause. more details later.

Well congrats on the 661! which just blows my mind - BTW

Great attitude.

Yeah, that 661 bench is amazing.

Looking forward to the details.

661? f’ing a Coach P, thats retarded, congratulations!

Technical error? wtf happened?

Bourbon fueled report:

Meet was lots of highs and lows. First I will knock out my performance. Please excuse any punctuation or spelling errors because I had a long fucking day and I am drinking.

Entry one-my performance:

Warms ups good, went just as planned, raw 135 x a bunch, 225 x 6, 315 x 2, 405 3board x 3, shirt on 595 x 3board 1, 2 board 1, 585 x 2board 1, 1 board 1

Opener attempt 1: 628.whatever (hate kilos). Red lights. It went down, got press command, I pushed it back up, but no go. I was in flight C and through flights A and B I kept hearing complaints/warnings about 1) really long pauses and 2) a really whippy bar. Now, if people benching in A and B are complaining about a whippy bar, and they have trouble, what can I expect? Also, I was number 13 in a flight of 15 for bench. Only 1 geared lifter before me got his opener. Problem is, it was something that you couldn’t prepare for until you experienced.

Apparently I ‘double dipped’, i.e. as I was going up the whip of the bar brought the weights back down, (Hah, one judge said I was pressing too fast). So I didn’t have ‘one continuous motion’.

Fine, pulled head out of ass:

Opener attempt 2: 628… SMOKE SHOW.

Almost considered skipping attempt 2. But fuck that.

Attempt 3: 661: easy breezy. +21 lb meet PR at exactly 30lbs less bodyweight.

Would have been nice to get my originally planned progression but I was happy.

Deadlifts: warm ups went okay at first. Everything felt all right, went through 135, 225, etc. Got suit on at 495, pulled that and I am guessing due to heavy handing stimulants I had to go dry heave. Fuck it, I have performed well under worse circumstances.

Got to the platform, and my opener was 672.

Should have been a smoke show. Problem was, I had the same issue getting my grip on my right hand, as I had in the gym 3 weeks ago. The suit was pulling me up before I got my grip situated properly, got it to lock out, actually got the ‘down’ command, but apparently brought it down too fast. I was ready to live with this but have since gotten feedback from 2 training partners, who are also both certified judges, that it should have counted. Oh fucking well. The judge was the same one who penalized me on the supposed dip, that no one else saw, and was doing the 5 second bench pauses. He has a big reputation in the state but yeah know???

So I tried 705 2 x. I didn’t want to waste my energy anymore on anything under 700. But this was stupid. I should have gone again with the 672 for easy white lites and a meet PR.

I also shouldn’t have tried pulling in a DL suit I only had for 3 training sessions. I actually got feedback immediately back in the warm up room from two of the guys from ND who had the same experiences as me with the same suit. Live and learn.

Again, had a great time. Had several people taking pics and video that I will try to post in the next week.

Still pretty happy with my meet bench PR at 30 lb less body weight.

Now on the the next training cycle.

I will give more detail later but a brief summary of highs and lows:

Lows: One training partner and good friend blew a quad and a knee on his squat opener. Shut down the meet for an hour, he is going in for surgery tomorrow.

Highs:
Watched the most amazing, fast, controlled, 1036 lb squat, from a 242 lifter, I have ever seen, live or in video. Great guy too, you will see it on the interwebz.

One of my training partners got the first over 700 bench as a full meet competitor in the state.

Dave’s fucking raw total is unbelievable, still trying to compute it (I think 777+440+805)…

Debbie, his mom, hit 3 x bwt squat and dl.

Most importantly a decent amount of money was raised for Garth Heckman, friend, gym owner, pastor, supporter of the sport and all around great guy, who is battling cancer again. Definitely not enough though.

Anyone interested in contributing to his fund let me know and I will provide details…

You’re pretty damned awesome, Pete. It’s amazingly cool to me to be sharing (virtual) space.

That is all.

Pete-

Just awesome. Awesome numbers, awesome cause.

Very inspiring.

WOW Pete, funny how one person can change your life in a few seconds, don’t let the judge get to you. Let the PR’s roll on. Back to the War Room and prepare for the next.

Big time effort ofr a good cause. Now you know and will be better prepared next time.

thanks all. wonderful ‘been hit by a truck’ feeling today. really appreciate the support.

That wasn’t a bench. That was a damn forklift.

In spite of swirling rumors to the contrary, fanned by that troublemaker Smapper, you are neither old nor ghey.

Pete superhuman, just mind blowing numbers , enjoy that bourbon, you deserve it!

Great job Pete…damn!! I feel like such a pussy right now.

Well, I knew it was Snapper, all along, calling me old and ghey. Figures.

Felt sick and tired all day. Combine CNS overload, adrenaline, and enough bourbon to kill a village, yeah, didn’t want to move much. Managed to clean a little, do a little laundry, (but didn’t fold), visit mom, pick up some groceries. Now making dinner: rib eye, eggs, hashbrowns, and Bloody Mary’s (mine are the best, the actual reason why my wife married me supposedly).

Gonna get back into things gradually here. Have some ideas for next training cycle. Also targeting to get down about another 10-15 lbs in bodyweight.
