DF, is that fb comment supposed to imply I am old?

I have better NOLA stories, will post some tomorrow if I have time.

My Iowa neighbor, there are going to be some crazy totals this weekend, or some crazy bombs. Either way it will be a good time:)
Is that what it implied? Nah, though you have my real name, look me up if you desire.

You will be happy to know that benching tonight 1) I worked on being flat footed.

You will not be happy to know that 1) no video - turned out too blurry to see what was goin on, 2) had to stop cause of my shoulder, and 3) I missed (twice) an inch from lockout…dammit. Whats your preferred way of hammering lockout strength?
Tried to look you up on FB, with the name you gave me. Not sure which one of the 5gazillion you were, too lazy to find the Southern Powerlifting Law Student Who Likes To Wear Beanies. I am easier to find, like Highlander there can be only one. PM’d you my last name if you hadn’t figured it out.

Regarding Lockout: Work It. ha ha. Best luck I have had is reverse grip benches (gotta get back to them), raw two and three boards, close grips; my money maker is the rolling tris with a mini around the neck; JM presses and, ala Meat, power pushdowns, with a mini-band around the neck. Plus always include some time under tension shit, in my log you will see I do rope downs/extensions, sets of 10-30 for each in a super set fashion. I only rest like 15 seconds between super-sets, so I really almost have one continual set for about 5 minutes. Look also at the West-side logs, their benches are getting ridiculous for full meet lifters, (AJ, Brandon, Hoff). And they are not getting crazy with the bench shirts either, they are just getting that fucking strong.

“Sever asshole” means something entirely different than “be a severe asshole.”

I know what you mean about not training. It’s very addictive for me. I loathe the weeks before and after a meet. I can only hope that the meet itself provides enough glory.

Can’t wait to hear about yours.

Youre the man, thank you again for your constant putting up with my questions. Was furious I missed it at lockout tonight, thats rarely where I run into problems.

missing at lock out can also be due to how you are holding the bar

How so?

You need to grip the bar so the bar angles across the base of your palm. Kinda like holding a baseball bat. For me, when the weight gets heavy, this makes a world of difference last couple of inches. I will try to get video at some point to explain.

Interesting…

My boy has been frustrated with his bench (still good numbers but he doesn’t see it that way) and I noticed he switched from suicide grip to ?regular?..

Null, suicide grip moves you to take the weight across the base of the palm automatically. But it is kinda stupid to use. What I am talking about is a safer approach.

Traning note: Did 15 minutes elliptical this morning, then my 150lb American Bulldog got his head stuck trying to dig a dog treat out from under the entertainment center. I got off the elliptical to help the poor dumb bastard, decided I was absolutely sick of cardio, and will not do any more until Monday or Tuesday.

I have been consuming about 50-60 grams of protein every two hours, so far in the form of steak, chicken, whey, and tuna today. Literally hungry right away. There is bound to be some epic eating this weekend, then back to the plan.

Family off and away. Went and got a massage with gift certificate wife got me for Xmas. Felt awesome. And no, no ‘happy ending’ you pervs…

The wife checks the log occasionally, huh, big guy?.. noone would ever suggest there might have been a, what was it you said?.. ‘happy ending?’

Ogre, gotta keep all bases covered.

Well, last night I completely ignored my plans to do a mild water/weight cut. I was sick of everyone posting on FB what a great St. Paddy’s day they were having, blah blah blah, so a) I chowed down and b) had a couple of whiskies. Massage + big meal + some adult beverages = awesome night’s sleep.

That being said I drove an hour to the meet location this morning and stepped on the scale. To the ounce I was exactly 30lbs less than my weigh in on 10/22/10, and this was the same scale. Pretty happy with that.

Now I am contemplating what to eat the rest of the day. I want to feel full, but don’t want to over bloat. At the same time I have had the worst craving for pad thai…

Pete:

Nice weight loss, was it gradual as in 6 pounds a month, more or less? Did you experience any strength loss? Im sorry if this was covered already, Im new.

30lbs? Impressive weight drop. Good luck tomorrow.

Very gradual. Just calculated, average about 1.5 to 2 lb a week. There were dips and plateus, only weighed myself twice a month so that wouldn’t mess with me too much.

Had about a 5 week period where I couldn’t hit a bench PR, but that changed. Deadlift improved, how much we shall see tomorrow. Squat improved. Bench is going back up. Biggest issue is my bench shirt is loose now, so not getting as much carry over, but I need to shell out some cash for a new one anyway. But considering I am moving heavier weight with a looser shirt, well, guess that means I actually did get stronger there.

Thanks buddy, it is going to be a good time. Amazing how many people had to cut for the meet. At 9 a.m. the place was swarmed, lol. Everyone had their gatorades, etc handy and itchy to get to the diner down the road to grub.

Thanks Bro, best of luck tomorrow.

Nice work, Pete. That makes the bodybuilder side of me very proud.

White lights tomorrow Pete! and well done on the 30#s, I’d like to drop a few over the next couple of months as well.

Awesome execution of diet and prep!

Good luck!
