All of these people claiming Kanye West sucks as a musician do not understand hip hop, and I’m sure most of them do not understand pop music in general.
It’s always that same group that either think music has gone downhill, or that group that thinks that underground music is way better than pop music and people are stupid for not liking the same music as them. I wish I could quote the people in this thread that fall under one or both of these categories but it’s been almost everyone.
Like already mentioned if you do not listen to hip hop please shut the fuck up. Your opinion on hip hop isn’t based on any knowledge of the genre and isn’t wanted. And no, hearing it in a club and “vaguely” knowing some artists doesn’t count. That’s really fuckin’ stupid.
For the record, Kanye West is a great producer and AN EVEN BETTER RAPPER. Yes, he has an akward flow, yes he has some really bad punchlines, and no his rhymes aren’t always up to par, but the guy gets his message out and millions of people understand him. Nobody in the rap game really expresses themselves as well as Kanye West, how else do you think people root for such an asshole? And if you listen to his music, an unapologetic asshole at that. If you really think that getting popular in music is all publicity stunts and simple hooks, you are far more naive than the guys who listen to pop music. Get it? You’re too stupid to get that “simple” music. Making a “simple” beat like what Kanye does is HARD.
It’s really funny that people seem to be hating guys like Kanye West, Soulja Boy, and Lil Wayne (and how did Kanye get lumped in there anyway?) by making the point that you don’t need to be talented to get popular. Is it too hard for you to realize that all of these guys bring something to the table that people like. Why the fuck would you judge Soulja Boy on the same standards as you judge a band like The Roots (no on here’s explicitly done it, but it’s been heavily implied)? They cater to different audiences, and they make different kinds of hip hop. This music is supposedly for simpletons but somehow you people in this thread are too fucking simple to realize that you weren’t supposed to judge them on the same criteria. I would never judge Elzhi or Talib Kweli by how well their songs would play at a party, would I? So what makes it okay to judge a Soulja Boy record by his message/lyrics.
I’m sorry if some of you are too simple to get that it does take talent to make it big.
When people post saying that pro bodybuilders are only successful because of steroids and other drugs, and genetics, people rush to point out how stupid that is. It takes work AND talent (and then maybe drugs) for these guys to get where they are. And let’s not forget the guys who put down certain pro’s for not having an aesthetic build, they also get theirs. And of course that’s to be expected on a bodybuilding forum. But then if you guys are so frustrated with people putting down the successes of pro bodybuilders, how is this any different? YOU’RE not a fan so you assume their success is due to marketing, and other people not being smart enough?
