Kairiki's Progress Log - From Wimp to Warrior

I’ve been on most continents (except for the really No & So ones, too cold), but only traveled through Asia, didn’t really get to see anything. Really want to go diving in Malaysia before it gets spoilt.

You got me there on the death of your friends, then I see ‘quitter’ & ‘weakness’!

Wow, I have been to Japan, Philippines x 2, Hong Kong, Newcastle and Sydney, Australia; Dubai…courtesy of the U.S. Navy.

Good work! Saw that you bumped to 30 on the TGUs today (I think you’ve been sticking w/25 'til now, right?); nice - was just about to nudge you to go heavier, because it sounded like you were ready (on your swings, too).

Tale of the Tape

Hi Warriors,

I got up early (4:00-ish a.m.) to take measurements. I haven’t taken measurements since two checkpoints (December 23,2011 and January 7, 2012). So let’s see how we have done. Numbers don’t lie and if you don’t measure it, you can’t monitor it, right?

First, we will be a combination of measurements from Dec 2011 and Jan 2012. Jan 2012 measurement was different because I was following the protocol from the book “Four Hour Body” by Timothy Ferriss. So if you see the letter ‘d’ in parenthesis then means measurements from December while ‘j’ means measurements in January. I am rebelling against the slack-jawed and bubbleheaded U.S. English measuring system so I am using metric (centimeters and millimeters). So sue me.

Okay…let’s get started:

Dateline - December 23, 2011 and January 7, 2012

Bodyweight

-163.2 (d)

Neck

-38.1 (d)

Chest

-95.9 (d)

Left Bicep

-31.1 (d)

Right Bicep

-31.1 (d)

Left Forearm

-27.3 (d)

Right Forearm

-27.3 (d)

Waist

-87.2 (j)

Hips
-95.3 (j)

Left Thigh
-54.9 (j)

Right Thigh
-55 (j)

Left Calf
-35.6 (d)

Right Calf
-35.6 (d)

Body Fat
-20% (j)

Current Stats (+/- differences in parenthesis):

Bodyweight

-168.0 (+4.8)

Neck

-35.6 (-2.5)

Chest

-94 (-1.9)

Left Bicep

-35.6 (+4.5)

Right Bicep

-35.6 (+4.5)

Left Forearm

-25.4 (-1.9)

Right Forearm

-25.4 (-1.9)

Waist

-83.9 (-3.3)

Hips
-94 (-1.3)

Left Thigh
-55 (-0.1)

Right Thigh
-55 (-0.1)

Left Calf
-35.6 (0)

Right Calf
-35.6 (0)

Body Fat
-19% (-1.0%)

I also figured out the following:

-Weight: 168.0
-% BodyFat: 19%
-Fat: 31%
-Lean Body Mass: 137 pds

Compare this to my very first stats on 7/4/11:

-Weight: 143.0
-% Bodyfat: 13%
-Fat: 18%
-Lean Body Mass: 125 pds

So from July 2011 to February 2012, there has been a 12 pound lean body mass gain. Wow!

Still, I still have a long way to go yet at least there are some improvements. This is a journey…a marathon and not a sprint. Three steps forward, two steps back. As long as I keep moving forward, this is what counts.

P.S. Off-topic - How do you change your profile pic? I have tried to look everywhere in my Hub and even ‘Edit Info’ and found nothing. Halp!

Aloha, HT…

Thanks for coming by!

Shoots then, Sista!

Lean muscle increase? Congrats!

Love the Jim Carrey bit. Trivia fact: I worked at the FX house that did some of the visuals for The Mask, in fact they did that specific scene you showed. I didn’t work on it, though, was busy building a film scanner for Crimnson Tide.

hmm, changing avatars used to be in the edit your profile space.
maybe it’s still early but I’m not seeing it.

yep a journey indeed!!

@ Cav: Thanks…re: Mask…small world indeed! Hard to believe that The Mask is 18 years old! blank stare

@MIM: -Late entry- re: support: My pleasure…I hope I can continue to be a blessing to you. Also, please share with your husband my sincere thank-you for serving our country. As a former Navy, I know how long deployments can be a bear.

re: Avatar: Maybe we are stuck with our avatars now…actually, maybe if I eat more (the latest advice on T-Nation), this will force my avatar to change.

UPDATE: Finally able to change avatar yesterday…EATING MORE HELPED! LOL

Awards & everything on this log!

Good God, is that you in the new avatar?? You DID eat a lot more!!

Please let me know details of the diet that allowed such a transformation.

@ Mini: Nuthin’ but wuv for y’all…nuthin’ but wuv!

@ Cav and Snap: ROFL! Yes, the Krispy Kremes have transformed me from a paltry 170 lbs Black man to a beastly white man. It’s all in K.K.'s flour.

Well, the last of the staycation is today.

Wonderful time of rest. Back to work tomorrow.

I have been preoccupied with my new toy: a Verizon Motorola Droid X (finally buying a “new” phone after 3 years with the LG EnV 9900). I found some cool apps like the Drinking Water App that gives a reminder when I need to drink water (my weakness).

The app works like a dream and I have the frequent bathroom runs to prove it. LOL

Also, if you have gotten a chance, I have started a thread (with trolls, flamers, and all) called:

“We Can Rebuild It: How Would You Revamp T-Nation?”

You can find it here and feel free to join the discussion: Redirect Notice

5 more days of rest and getting fat and funky before I hit the Rockpile again…thanks to all of you for helping me in this journey.

P.S. Mini-Rant: I am totally discouraged by the amount of supplement companies that throw in sucralose in their products. Have you noticed this as well? Here’s my concern: Splenda pushing new 'essentials' line of toxic sucralose as a health product - NaturalNews.com

Thoughts?

I’d have to read more about splenda. The thing is I gave up sugar for the month of Feb, its been surprisingly easy, compared to when I gave up wine for Jan. But my justification is sugar is worse for you than wine, think my waistline agrees. So anyway my point is I’ve been drinking some sugar replacement stuff now & then instead.

I’ll have to look at those articles later and offer my thoughts.
Hope today is a good one!
