I watched the DVD last week and thought it was great. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but I feel like that was a good thing. It was very different from the traditional bodybuilding DVD and I found that that made it much more motivational. It felt much more intense than any other bodybuilding movie I have seen before.
The part where Kai talks about Ronnie Coleman sent chills down my spine. It’s my new favourite motivational scene to watch before hitting the gym.
Mike did a very good job of getting into the personal life of Kai, although I feel like Kai may have been a very different man during those 7 weeks in Las Vegas than who he usually is.
You are absolutely right. Kai is usually a talkative, happy guy, but in Vegas he was totally withdrawn. Maybe that’s just what he needs to do to compete.
I’m glad that you appreciate that I am trying to do something a little different. Some BB fans just want me to STFU and just show the workout footage! LOL! I can appreciate that and there’s nothing wrong with DVDs like that, but that would bore me personally and so I put myself in the role of a reporter bringing back my observations. Some people like it, some don’t. You can’t please everyone.

There is plenty of footage of the top pros lifting on the MD and flex websites, I don’t get why people wouldn’t want to see something a little different. I haven’t seen this, yet, but the trailer makes it look much more interesting.

here is a pic from Kai Vol. Two which in the works by Mike i believe…
apparently it’s been photo shopped e.g. contrast levels modified but it seems that’s the only alteration, pretty sick picture.
Mike nice to have you on T-Nation, the dvd was great. perhaps some B&W footage in the up coming volume? i enjoyed the film noir it had on some of the McGraw vids from that other supplement company.
Hmmm…there’s a heavy leg workout sequence in Vol 2 that might benefit from black and white. I’ll have to try it and see how it looks. Thanks for the suggestion!

Dont worry i didnt pirate it lol. Anyways pretty cool to see the filmmaker on this site. Now can you get Kai Greene to post on here?
Kai Green is sponsored by muscle meds. this is a Biotest site.
It’s not just that, Kai doesn’t like to post on forums. When he does it, it is very reluctantly. Although he has many fans, Kai also has many people who really dislike him. He prefers to avoid negativity and it’s kind of hard to avoid negativity on the forums sometimes!
Kai seems to polarize BB fans more than most. Those who love him REALLY love him and those who dont REALLY don’t! Probably because of his controversial past.

That’s what I think too. I’m trying to have a little fun with it and make it more dramatic and a little more like a movie. If you’ve ever seen clips from my Raising the Bar series about my brother Dave, you know what I mean…
Just watched part three… It’s my favourite part so far. Really gives you a sense of the intensity and sacrifice needed at that level, and I thought the commentary fitted really well with the visuals.

Finished the last part yesterday, I really enjoyed the entire documentary. I thought it really captured the dedication that the top guys have. However, I didn’t really understand Kai’s rant about Branch towards the end. He did seem to handle his placing very well in that he kept the positive attitude he had for the most part, and didn’t make excuses for himself.
If you give it another listen you’ll see that Kai isn’t really complaining about Branch’s placing. In fact he says, “it’s nothing against the judges” at one point.
What he is trying to do is give us a peek inside the mindset of someone who has prepared for and EXPECTED a certain outcome, only to see that outcome not come to fruition. IN THAT MOMENT, as his placing was announced, this is what it was like. He couldn’t believe that it was going down like that, not because of the quality of the competitors, only because of the mental prep he had done for so long.
It was a shock in that moment, as he said. When you do the kind of visualization techniques that he uses it would naturally be a shock if the success you completely and fully had expected didn’t happen.

Yeah, I don’t think he meant to disrespect Branch at all, he did mention a couple other competitors. I just thought it was funny that he repeatedly mentioned Branch, especially considering Branch was NOT expected to place that high. Most people had him towards the bottom of the top 5 or 6.

Thanks, after reading that the clip clicked in my head. Great explanation.

Well, maybe a LITTLE of his opinion of Branch’s physique was creeping in after all, now that you mention that! I wasn’t aware of that! LOL!
Mostly he was trying to be funny for me and at the same give me an insight into his thought processes.
