I was happy with the bench session. 250 went up easy and probably had another rep. Going to add some weight to my working sets next week. I felt pretty good about the back session as well. I didn’t do anything spectacular, but I felt like I worked everything well. Got sick as hell Sunday night and was still feeling the effects this morning. My daughter starts dance tonight so I think I will hit the gym while she is in class and make up this morning’s session.
I got pissed as hell Saturday. I was reading in the Wall Street Journal about the Huffington Post and other people questioning the ‘tact’ of the people in Morgan City, La holding the 75th annual Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, in wake of the oil spill. It really got under my skin. Maybe its that I know many from Morgan City. Maybe its that i know those people’s livelihood depends on both the oil industry and seafood industry (my father in law was a fisherman down there for 30 years). Those folks make their living fishing and off shore. The provide for their families, they send their kids to college. They contribute to society. Then some fancy writer or government official that has never had to get dirty or sweat an ounce questions these people’s sensibilities. I wish I was an eloquent writer to explain how I feel about how it has become so politically and socially incorrect to make an honest living off the land or out of the seas. Those if us left doing that are adding value. We are not merely shuffling paper and creating bureaucracy in order to create a reason for that job to exist. We are what America was built on. To question the “tact” of holding a 75 year old festival celebrating the livelihood of a whole region is abhorrent to me.
Sorry for the rant,
JW’s Morning thought: I don’t need you to remind me of my age. I have a bladder to do that for me.
Also, rant away. I’m not a big fan of oil spills, and I think BP could have done a better job on some things, but I drive a 3/4 ton pick up, so, the way i figure it, I can’t really bitch too much about a few mishaps resulting from trying to get that stuff out of the ground. I certainly don’t begrudge the people who work hard to get the fish to market and the petrol to the pump.

Fast one today. Had to get home to be Mr. Mom and get the daughter off to school. Going back for another session tonight. It’s her ballet night.
JW’s morning thought: I found there is only one way for me to look thin… hang out with fat people.
When I read, “Chest Training” and the first exercise was Squats, made me remember back when Tom Platz was going to increase his chest to somewhat near his legs by doing more squats. Bench pressing with 95# dbs is very good btw.
Had great plans for an evening workout. Between my 12 y.o.'s body deciding it was time for her to finally be a woman, while her mother was at the hospital sitting with HER mother getting an aneurysm repaired, my boiler going FUBAR and the only guy that can fix it is a deaf combustion engineer that I have lost contact with in 4 years, AND having to get to the pharmacy for allergy meds… My mind wasn’t in the training. The bar felt heavy… I should have stayed home. Oh well I will try again Saturday.
JW’s morning thought: The best laid schemes of mice and men … Go oft awry.
Oh man, you got it going on…keep plugging away… I have walked the daughter turning into a woman road…Now you are out numbered and will have to play zone defense! Best of luck…hey for the amount of time out of the gym I think the bench looks pretty good.

Got a heckuva lot going on. But the bench work looked good to me. Godspeed with the daughter growing up. Mine is not far behind.
Mine either. I got kind of choked up reading your post, JW . . .
My wife and daughter totally tried to hide this one from me. As if I wouldn’t have noticed. Since that’s the way they wanted it, I still haven’t said anything. It’s been almost a year.
At one point, I was going to suggest you give highland games a try, but I didn’t want to sound like a recently converted zealot (I am, but didn’t want to sound like it). At the moment I don’t care if I sound that way, so I suggest you give some of these things a try. See how far you can throw a 30lb dumbbell. It’s fun.

same thing happened to me quite a number of years ago. Just give your daughter an extra hug and refer to her as “Your favorite young lady” or something like that in public some time.
keep pluggin’ along JW and you’ll be ahead of the game in the long run!
Another gym attempt foiled… What is it said about a road of good intentions?? We got our boiler fixed. Those tricky electronics made by those tricky Japanese… we forgot to switch some jumpers and set some dip switches. That’s electronic talk that translates into sawmill as, “You dumb asses, look at the back of the sucker and make sure EVERYTHING matches!”
Anyway one problem down. The daughter is winding the transition into womanhood down, just in time for a bout of strep throat… She had that crap 6 times last year. Here it is the 10th day of school and she has it again…
I’m going to bench tomorrow…DAMMIT!
