Just Venting

“SORRY I WANTED TO SAY 2 MONTHS”

I am closing in on a MEET 26 April, Doing pin pulls for back on mondays and Squats on thursdays. I have 2 questions since it is less than 2 weeks out when is a good time to start pulling from the floor and suit up for the squat. Thank you in advance

Just a vent from a fellow lifter: We workout in a gym that seems to be for White collars or anyone that makes too much money to put there cell phone away while they work out. My friend finally had enough today of waiting to get to 45lb weight and went off here is his vent:

I just wanted to write vent a little after today’s conversation in the gym.
I was at the gym this afternoon and found myself getting a little irritated
at the 35 pound plates. What the hell is a 35 pound plate good for? If you
need 35lbs add a 10lb to a 25lb and you’re good. All 35lb plates do it take
up space and steel (and rubber depending on how girlie of a gym you go to).

I first realized how much I hated these things when I went into the gym one
day and all the 45’s were being used; yet there were about 20 35lb plates
mocking me on the rack. Yes for all of you who want to point out that I
could of used a 35 and a 10 to get my 45 I know this; however I bench more
then 135 lbs so therefore that isn’t exactly logical for me.

So enough
bitching here is my solution to this: Take all those 35 plates put them in
a smelting pot get some 45 temples and pore the steel in. This way when
real lifters get in the gym they have some damn tools to complete there
sets. I will say you can keep 2 35’s in the gym just incase a guy comes in
that loads up the leg press and can’t get that last 45 up; then he may need
a 35 because he wouldn’t have enough room for the 25 and 10. Other then
that there is no excuse for a 35lb plate to be in any gym.

feel better?

35s are worthless, agreed!

You can use them for dipping/chinning, ab work, neck work, grip work…

So yeah, a gym needs about 4 of em.

10 x 35 + 45 = 395

35s are a waste of space. I think they are there so that those who cannot use 45s feel better about themselves. Big Boy plates lite.

I hear ya…I have 2 35’s in my home equipment, don’t think I’ll ever get any more.

They are kinda like Diet 45’s. They just aren’t the real thing.

35’s are the same size as my bumper plates. 45’s negate the purpose of having bumpers for me. I only have one set of 45’s and they always stay on the bar in my power rack.

I lift at home, so the only person I need to impress is myself. Oh, and my kids, but their easy to impress.

I hadn’t thought of it before, but due to the smaller diameter, I do all my deadlifts from a deficit.

You don’t need many but they’re not worthless.

Useful for pulling from a deficit.

And they take up less space on the bar than a 25 and a 10.

I have no issue with 35’s or any other non machine weight the gym provides. I was just posting something one of my workout crew vented on one day when the gym had way to many 35’s and only several 45’s. We are powerlifters and bodybuilders trying to workout in a gym that is not set up for our group.

It would be nice however if they did have a section with maybe 2 squat racks with dumbells that went pass 100 lbs. I have nothing against treadmills and machines but hell you can run outside which is an option. If I’m trying to break a PR in the squat or deadlift or bench than a machine or a treadmill will not help me much in that goal. Seems that those type of gyms may become a thing of the past with everyone wanting to be ultra safe or fast and use a machine.
