Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

2.26.21 C3 W3 D3 - Squat

RUN
1 mile in 8:46

2 ROUNDS

  • RFESS x 15 ea
  • Push Ups x 15
  • Face Pull x 20
  • Plate Crunch x 15

SQUAT
120 x 5
170 x 5
210 x 3
260 x 1 x 5 sets

PAUSED 1/3 FRONT SQUATS
235 x 3 x 3
185 x 3 regular front squats
Last set with regular bar; everything else was done with the axle. These paused front squats have seen their last workout. They kill my back. It hasn’t been bad yet, but it’s torched in a strange way. I’ll switch back to doing some sort of clean movement on both lower body days next week. Other than that, I see no need for any changes.

Add swimming to my day. I swam about 150 yards and my legs told me they were going to lock up if I didn’t stop. I probably covered 300 yards or more cruising back and forth and going off the diving board.

That’s interesting your legs were going to lock up wile swimming. I’ve always found it much harder to swim with fatigued legs and with tired or sore upper body muscles. It seems the opposite should be the case :man_shrugging:t3:

There is lots of kicking going on when I swim. I can slow my stroke rate and try to cruise but my legs can’t slow down or I’ll sink.

I. Suck. I couldn’t even run 400m unbroken. I probably walked, shuffled 80m, walked, shuffled 90m.

Do Litvinov for a while. That’ll cure you. 3x8 front squats SS with 400m run.

Sounds slightly better. The clean & jerk just ramps up my HR. 135 should be an easy clean but when combined with the other stuff, it becomes difficult. It probably has a lot to do with form breakdown.

I forgot to mention that I tweaked my twice repaired shoulder last night. I entered the water pretty straight up and down off the spring board and my arm internally rotated a bit and popped. It didn’t hurt to do the workout but it reminded me afterwards.

You forgot the important bit: 405lbs front squats

135 would sufficiently suck for me.

I agree 100%

Also, it’s not normal for anyone to front squat 405 let alone for 8 reps. I love it when anomalies in the “sport” share workouts for people like it’s normal.

In fairness, it was Dan John that shared the workout: not Litvinov.

Im not sure Dan John is “normal” either, but you’re own, so anyone squatting less than 600 for reps is normal :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Edit: doing THE WORKOUT with 600, not just squatting 600

I am not familiar with Dan being an amazing athlete. Fantastic coach though.

Are you doing Crossfit now?

I think Dan seems to have managed to find sports even less popular than powerlifting or strongman, so its hard to tell how “amazing” an athlete he may or may not be or have been.

Dude, highland games are legit. There is a reason Steve Pulcinella did that instead of strongman, haha.

I agree.

As is discus, and Olympic lifting. Maybe less so weight pentathlon, I’m not clear.

I don’t know enough about any of those to know whether he was any good or not though.

Who picked the weight!?

I’ve actually gotten away from it. I was doing more of this in the fall for conditioning. If thy weather is decent, I’ll start doing more of this on the weekends. Today was the first time I used my 5 foot bar from Titan. The only reason I wanted it was because it’s easier to carry it in and out of the house.

Litvinov’s coach I imagine
