Cheeseburger omelet is solid dude! Glad you could enjoy it.
I get where you’re going with the front squat for catching drills, but I reckon this one will be better for you both drilling wise and longevity of your low back
I have definitely decided that I liked the clean holds better. These have crossed my mind. They’re part of the clean progression CT posted on his site.
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m doing everything in my power to avoid full cleans and front squats. ![]()

Decided I could get a head start on the next cycle since all I needed to do today was bench. U had no gas in the tank. I think it’s a combination of a virus that took two weeks to escape and two weeks of not running. My HR was higher than normal and I am still getting light headed. I’ve looked at some of the newer 5/3/1 templates for accessory inspiration, but I’m back to struggling to do the bare minimum.
I made my best strength gains when lifting twice a week, doing cluster sets with looooonng rests on a bare minimum number of lifts. Keep chugging, itll get better.

Rest day. It’s cold out. It’s currently about 10 degrees F. We don’t get this too often and I don’t like it. It’s going to be like this all week so there will be no running outside. I might be able to muster the energy to go to the work gym and use the treadmill but I wouldn’t bet on it.
I’m just going to keep moving forward. I’m confident I’ll make progress.
This is really nice to hear
Glad it encourages you! How so?
I was following a Dan John strength cluster, 2/3/5/2/3/5/2/3 for squats, close grip bench, and weighted pullups and similar low-rep clusters for standing OHP and deadlifts, with a few secondary exercises (sled pushing, O-ring push-ups and rows, T-bar rows.) I took 2-3 minute rests between sets, and strength just happened. With hard lifting ![]()
Having a similar struggle, and it is not even as cold here…probably 25 F, but with an awful swirling wind all the time. I actually sorta want to run, or more accurately I want to get better at running while simultaneously not loving it. Literally sitting here right now trying to figure out if I want to subject myself to the discomfort.
@Tougher is up in Canada running when it’s -40. It’s a good thing I don’t have a big ego or I’d be forcing myself to go outside. With any luck, I’ll make it to the work gym and do a mile on the dreadmill for a warm up today.
At some point I don’t think it is good for your lungs. Not sure what that point is. Anyway, I forced myself to go and do it. I only wish I had access to a treadmill right now.
I’m currently working a side gig directing traffic at a school and it’s 9 and feels like -6 F. I have on layers but apparently I need another. ![]()
I will just come out and say it, I hate the cold. HATE. People shouldn’t have ever migrated to these climates.
I’m in the center of the US and I agree. We get 110 in the summer and 0 in the winter. I don’t know why my family stayed here. My wife and I stayed because of them, but I don’t know their excuse.
I’d rather do manual labor when it’s 100 deg F than deal with this.
Same.
It’s actually not too bad once you start. It’s just the mental challenge of deciding to get out there that’s hard. You don’t even need to wear as much as you’d think.
- At 25F, I’d wear a t-shirt, hoody, track jacket and sweatpants.
- At around 0F, I’d switch the t-shirt for a long sleeve shirt and add some light gloves.
- At around -15F I’ll add a t-shirt under the long sleeve, a layer under my sweatpants, and a balaclava.
These are just ranges and can move some degrees either way depending on how I feel that day.
Even with this, I often find I’ve over dressed. Guys here who are actually into running don’t wear this much; I just like being warm. One thing I’ve learned is running is way different than standing or walking and you’d be surprised how much and how quickly you warm up.
A big factor here is wind and humidity. 15-20 mph wind is a normal day. This week it’s hanging around 10mph and it’s quite nice. In the summer, the humidity is always high. It’ll be 95 and the humidity will be 85%.
How do you handle hot weather? At what temp do you consider it hot and uncomfortable?
Humidity makes a huge difference. I definitely notice a difference when the humidity is higher and it will feel colder than it actually is. It’s dryer here, for sure, usually ranging between 50-80%. Summers are usually on the lower end.
It can get pretty windy, but usually more in the summer. In the winter, it’s the one benefit of all the layers, because the wind doesn’t get through them. In the summer, the wind is really annoying, though, because it’s always a cool wind. I think it’s because it’s coming off the mountains and hasn’t had time to warm up.
It very rarely hits 95, maybe once or twice a year. For the most part, 77 would be considered a warm day and once you get to 80-85, I’d call it a hot day. The average summer temperature is around a high of 73. It’s still pretty rare for people here to have air conditioners.
The other thing to know is that how cold it is right now is really not representative. Each year between mid January and mid February, there will inevitably be a week or two where it’s really cold, like right now, but otherwise, the average high is closer to 21.
Where do you live???
I disagree. Last winter, I had my first experience of “real cold” (long sleeve shirt weather by your definition
) and it did NOT get better.
On the bright side, my feet got numb so at least they didn’t hurt
Our winters are all over the place. We cycle from this crap (highs of 10) to 60 deg F from week to week. Actually, just last week it was 59. It seems like we get stretches like this where it’s nasty cold by our standards and then we spend about 10 days warming up. It might stay warmish for a week and then we start over with another cold snap. Occasionally, some of those warm days won’t have 30+ mph winds.
