Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

Aren’t you the one who mentioned type 2 fun?

Well yes, but I didn’t expect anyone to listen.

This is “the secret”. Works for fat loss too.

Whenever you see a really ripped dude, you’re seeing a really hungry dude. Whenever you see a really good runner, you’re seeing someone who has experienced a LOT of pain and misery.

Joke’s on you, I enjoy running.

Not necessarily a marathon-level slog, but I’ll happily run for 20-30 minutes.

They feel the same about a good run as I do a good deadlift. I haven’t met anyone who truly likes both.

My wife likes marathon and ultra training but hates lifting.

I will legit never understand liking training.

Yup as per @dagill2 I’m 100% with you on this (hence why all of us are running or attempting to at present).

Honestly apart from the fact I don’t like it there isn’t a good reason not to run (or do something similar cardio wise) regularly. It’s free, good for you (in moderation and let’s face it none of us are likely to go overboard at this point) and doesn’t take long.

I don’t like it but I’m not a child so that’s not good enough, just got to embrace the suck.

Today’s workout wasn’t type 2 fun. It was no fun. The previous workouts might have qualified as type 2 fun, but I don’t think it meets the standard of telling stories with friends. No one wants to hear about my 20 minute running workout.

We keep coming back don’t we?!

I sometimes wonder if I have mild masochistic tendencies. My craziest security story is when I grappled with a would-be thief through a pane of glass. I ended up having a bunch of glass shards in my neck while I was holding him down. In a moment of clarity, I suddenly thought, “This is the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”

I get a similar feeling of euphoria when I bust my ass on a hard set of squats or deadlifts, or a hard run. The feeling of pushing myself to the brink physically is enjoyable for me.

I’d definitely call that masochism. I enjoy the BEING of strong, but not the expression of it. I find the latter uncomfortable.

What are you using that’s showing you these zones and sruff? Does your watch have a special app?

My watch is a Garmin and it tracks it.

I remember watching one of your “rant” videos on your youtube channel to that effect - I think it was called “Fear vs Love”. Really good video - definitely changed the way I think about training and why we believe we “like” it.

Hey, I’ve seen you posting a ton in the different forums, but had no idea you were a cop until now. Same here, but up in Canada. I’m sorry to hear everything you guys have had to put up with.

I’m interested to see how your running goes with the lifting. I started up earlier in the year, more so when the gyms shut down, because I could only do so many push-ups before getting bored and needing something else. I’m just running twice/week now that my gym’s back open. I’d rather not, but I want to at least be able to and have some base level of ability.

I’ve kind of faded out of posting in the main forums. I spend my time in the training logs now.

I’m hoping that once I achieve a respectable level of running fitness that I’ll be able to back off to a two day a week maintenance approach.

Do you guys just watch us and laugh or what? I don’t know what’s going on with this country, but it needs help.

Honestly man, we’re so sad for the States. It’s awful what’s going on down there.

Nah, man, not laughing at all. I can’t understand what you guys are going through, but it’s sad to see.

Back to workout #1 which is run hard for 90 sec, jog/walk 60 sec for six rounds. Last week, I paced myself off effort and that was a mistake. I used a pace this week and it went much better. The goal was 7:50 - 8:10 pace on each run. And you bet your rear end I walked for rest.
