Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

And that’s exactly why my physique goal is maintenance. I don’t have any strength goals. I need to keep improving my conditioning. The HIIB isn’t bad, but it’s making me too sore since I’m spreading it out more than prescribed.

I’ve never done well with those programs that only hit a muscle group once a week. More frequency keeps the DOMS to a manageable level and I think the Tier Three Hybrid can help me with that.

I feel you, but mind isn’t so much discomfort, more disdain and my brain fighting me to stop, almost immediately, far bigger mental battle than anything I do with lifting.

In terms of having a good surface, could you pick up a treadmill from Craigslist? I got a decent treadmill second hand for £100, I would never run if I had to do it outside in a road haha

Then I second alex_uk and suggest that you find a way to get a treadmill if you can.

Are there hiking trails nearby where you can go on the weekends? I know you’re busy, so you can make it into some sort of weekly family event thing. It doesn’t seem to be necessary to jog on a frequent basis if your primary goal is cardio- pretty sure doing complexes or basically WODs that are geared towards conditioning/muscle-endurance is superior to jogging.

…To be fair, all WODs are conditioning if you’re strong enough!

We have a nice treadmill but the manufacturer lied about the weight capacity. It’s supposed to support my weight but it slips when I run. I only walk on it so I don’t break it. My wife is a distance runner (she Iikes 50ks) and I don’t want to break her only training tool.

No. I live in Kansas.

Has it done that since new? Mine slipped but when I checked the drive belt it was thick with matted on dust, cleaned that off and it’s been (mostly) ok since, greased up the running platform under the base as well. I hate that slipping sensation though feels like you might fall off (probably quite likely).

Hey, there’s plenty of corn fields, bean fields and pastures to hike through here!

Pretty much. I think it started the second time I used it. I hate the slipping feeling and I don’t want to make it worse. My wife is only 130 lbs so it works great for her. I don’t want to ruin that.

The Y had some sweet treadmills but I canceled my membership. They had three newer ones that looked like they had leaf springs. Those things felt great.

That sucks! Back to plan A run outside until it stops sucking.

11.10.20 CrossFit/Bodybuilding Hybrid W1 D1 - Legs

Let me just start by saying: :face_vomiting:

WARM UP
10 min elliptical, 0.73 miles - lowest distance covered in 10 minutes to date.

Fun Superset

BOX SQUAT
185 x 10 x 3
DEADLIFT
325 x 6 x 3
Rest 2 minutes between sets.

SMITH REV LUNGE
85 x 10 ea x 3 sets

Conditioning

July Rope x 100 x 4
DB Snatch 55 x 15 ea x 1
Tire Flip x 10 x 3
Time: 13:30

Well, conditioning was a disaster. It was supposed to be five rounds for time of jump rope and snatches. It turns out that you can’t do snatches with my dumbbells. The rotation unscrews my clamp and the weights start moving. I had to tighten the dumbbell four times on each arm.

I finished round one in 3:30 and then I had to move a bunch of stuff out of the way of my tire. The last 2.5 rounds were fast but overall the flow of this was a disaster. Oh, well. It still sucked the way it’s supposed to (I hate ending a sentence with a preposition but I’m too tired to think).

Is this a typo or is she actually mental?

Not a typo.

Isn’t that over marathon distance? Fair play, that’s a serious level of suffering.

31.0 miles. I can’t run 3.1 miles.

Haha same, well I probably could, I just cannot fathom why I would ever want to!

You’re running 7:30 miles for warm ups. You could handle a 5k.

I can but I don’t finish looking like I could do it another two times. I could probably slog through in 25/28 minutes, it is definitely more a case of why would I though?

50km races, for a hobby! Then again I’m sure most people would look at lifting and think no thanks!

Exercise, in general, is stupid.

Occasionally I find myself looking at morbidly obese people and thinking that they must be miserable. But then I think that food makes them happy and they probably don’t care about being active. Perhaps they’re completely satisfied with their life and I’m the bonehead living outside of comfort so I can be “fit”.

In periods of transcendental envy, watching people just eat whatever they want and not concern themselves with the outcome, I come to the realization that many people spend 23 hours a day hating themselves so that they can experience 1 hour (combined) of joy by eating things that make them happy. The alternative is to spend an hour or so a day being miserable so you can spend 23 hours a day enjoying being yourself.

But man, that 1 hour REALLY sucks.

But if you’re really obese I bet you can squeeze even more eating time in (net loss when you die early I suppose).
