Be careful to not take it to another level with a sneeze. I tweaked my back about 5 years ago leaning forward shaving, then sneezed making breakfast and went to the ground in spazaming, agonizing pain. Had to have my father drive 45 minutes to my house to help me off the floor. Probably the worst pain I’ve ever experienced.
We train to be capable and ready for life and the fatigue from training seems to sabotage us with these little incidents.
4.21.20 SGSS W9 D1 - Legs
Who doesn’t like training legs three times in five days?
SQUAT
bar x 10
150 x 5
180 x 5
210 x 5
240 x 3
270 x 2
300 x 1 RPE 10
DEADLIFT
185 x 5
255 x 3
295 x 3
345 x 2
395 x 1
435 x 1 hoping to make the work sets feel manageable.
415 x 3 x 3 sets
This matches my heaviest triple. Doing 3x3 is definitely a PR for deadlift workouts.
HANG POWER CLEAN
135 x 3
155 x 3
185 x 2
215 x 3 x 3 sets
RFESS
120 x 5 ea x 3 sets
BARBELL CURLS
95 x 20+7+4
INCLINE SKULL CRUSHER
95 x 14+5+4
Total Time: 52 minutes. That’s a bit long for a lunch break workout. I might have to make bigger jumps on deads to cut out some fluff. 255 and 295 felt like 185.
Dang, it’s been awhile since I’ve actually watched myself deadlift. I can see that my hips don’t drop enough on the touch and go reps. I think about bending my knees during the eccentric but it appears I’m not doing it enough. Something to think about Friday.
Y’all forgot sneezing!
The strained muscle in your back didn’t affect the training at all I see, good work on the PR!
I absolutely don’t understand how people can plan out a full years training like Jim suggests.
Wait, is this allowed? Because that sounds 4999% made for me.
Also, nice one. We might be alike in many ways, but don’t think I have ever managed that one.
Nice 3x3 J looking strong and solid all the way.
If you try to slow down the video and look where your hips are on the first rep when it actually leaves the floor it’s pretty much identical to the next two.
I would say you drop to low on the initial rep, the touch’n go reps makes your body to be en the strongest position.
That tweak disappeared pretty quickly.
How many of us have faced this existential training question?

I think he suggests a loose plan, just so you’re not floundering to scratch together a plan when you hit your next training block.
It’s basically how I structure my own training. It’s a great concept, in my opinion.
That makes total sense to me and was something I did myself for this year, and have redone to cope with the new world order. I fully anticipate doing the same next year until the plague of locusts or whatever 2021 has in store for us comes along.
He has mentioned having cycles planned out though for half a year/a years training which even at the time I thought was crazy.
He had stuff like that in Beyond. But I think with the leader/anchor system he’s kinda moved away from that. I could be totally wrong, though.
I don’t have forever yet because I’m stubborn and refuse to buy hard copies of books. It appears Wendler is even more stubborn though, so I guess I’ll have to suck it up and commit to jumping through the hoops to get hold of it.
I’ll be honest, unless you’re committed to using the 5/3/1 principles for the majority of your training career, I wouldn’t bother. I bought it because I’m a Wendler fanboy and the 5/3/1 structure keeps things simple for me, but as @T3hPwnisher has said, his previous books are perfectly fine.
I feel like you are giving me permission not to squat and DL, but now I am probably going go look at your log and see a bunch of even worse shit.
I’m also a pretty big Wendler fanboy. Wendler/Dan John and @T3hPwnisher have been my biggest influences in terms of lifting philosophy. It’s a wonder I still manage to fuck it up really.
And yeah, I have a half plan (8 months out) to do a whole year of 531 next year so Forever will be huge for that long term planning aspect.
Oooooh buddy, I still believe squatting and deadlifting are necessary for “Athlete-ing” your lower half. But in the realm of strength/power, not necessarily ball-busting volume.
I can get on board with that. I actually like lifting. But by bottom parts never really grow, so I am just looking for a reason to stop trying.
