Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

That’s awesome! Any price limit?

He said the budget was $80k. :eyes:

Plus trap bars, maybe a hip thrust machine, and maybe a Prowler? Any chance you could get a line of turf down one side of the room? That’d be sweet.

Lots of mirrors…

It’s possible. The Chief’s gym has one of the big cable stations with three implements on the ends and adjustable pulleys on the inside. He doesn’t care for the amount of space it consumes and he’s not wrong. We could accomplish the same thing with a different option.
@flappinit, $80k goes fast. This will be a gym for cops and most of them don’t work out. I have my work cut out for me. It’ll be tricky to balance my wants with the desires of the group. I’d love the Hammer Strength Row and Pull Down instead of leg extensions and curls. Our current gym has a beastly leg press and pin selector leg press machine. That’s redundant. I’ll actually try to make cost effective decisions. It’d be nice to be able to afford a water fountsin (something the current gym lacks).

And there will be a treadmill. If people want to run then great. I just want them to do something.

I think the company from which we bought our last gym offers layout and design (and they damn well should for that kind of money) so I’ll get their help. There are minimum standards for distance between equipment.

As I think about this, I’ll probably start by copying the current gym and then making substitutions. For example, a power rack and adjustable bench might be better than a fixed bench, incline, and decline.

I know, it was definitely tongue-in-cheek and more of a knock at treadmills. Not a realistic 80K budget, unless you get all shitty brand names.

Other ideas include:
1 ARX machine

10 deadlift platforms, 10 deadlift bars, and the remainder of the budget in weights

Turn the whole gym into a Zumba studio and hire a super hot instructor

They won’t take advantage of me and my background. You think they’re going to add an entire salary to the budget?

If it was my gym it’d have a sweet power rack with built in platform. I think a prowler and sandbag could be useful for conditioning. I’d get a cable station, and it’d be a tough decision between Hammer pull down and row or cable pull down and row. And an adjustable bench.

My pleasure.

I hear that; that’s how I feel about RFESS.

Maybe. Maybe not. What might be harder is recovery. You’ve had a few surgeries now, each of which takes a toll. Recovery in the mid-30s is a least a little slower than the mid-20s. And physical capacities shift over time.

I think that’s a good idea - use the squats as a means to your goal of deadlifting 500+. That way, you’ll maintain squatting strength and whatever mass gains squats may or may not yield while staying focused on your current primary strength goal and not emotionally burning yourself out.

That freakin’ rocks. All of us here are salivating at your opportunity! Since you already have some equipment, I reckon you’ll keep what you want so you don’t have to repurchase it. What about a law enforcement discount?

Congrats on your new truck too, it’s beautiful!

I squat more than I deadlift and I agree with you
High rep deadlifts help build my squats
Squats don’t seem to build my deadlift
Sumo deadlifts also seem to help my box squat.

Leverages most likely?

That’s interesting, I am squatting 3 days a week now and only deadlift 1 day. I am not pushing deadlift too hard but it seems to be getting easier and easier anyway. No idea if it’s the squats but just saying.

We have a new gym in the City Building where the Chiefs and Detectives work. They’re replacing my station and the new one is supposed to have a gym. Everything will be brand new. I’ll need to remember to account for flooring.

I’m not sure if we get a discount but you’d like to think there’s some savings when you outfit an entire gym.

Squats might help depending on your leverages and form. You could also be improving at bracing and seeing a carryover to deads.

Funny my picks would be exactly the opposite order. Love my white truck. No matter what it never looks too dirty lol

White is like the default color around here.

3.10.20 SGSS W3 D1 Legs

Well, it’s kind of like SGSS…

RFESS
BW x 10 x 2

SQUAT
45 x 10
135 x 5
165 x 5
195 x 5
225 x 3
255 x 3
285 x 1

SL LEG PRESS
315 x 10 ea
405 x 10 ea x 2
405 x 25 DL
I usually don’t count the weight of the sled, but this one is 136 lbs. Most of them are 70.

HANG CLEAN PULL
249 x 5 x 3 sets
Used the stupid plates that are 47 and 49 lbs.

Good session. I didn’t mind squats. Time will tell if they’ll work for improvement. They’re from 5/3/1 so they have to work, right? This took 32 minutes and I feel pretty good. The downside is that I haven’t done deadlifts yet. I saved those for home so I can be loud.

I can handle sets of 1-5. I also don’t mind ramping, but straight sets kills me and my motivation.

LOL I am slowly starting to realise that I must be the most boring individual here when it comes to training. The more straight and simple it is, the more I seem to like it. Maybe because everything else in my life is so busy and chaotic the simple training just feels good.
You need to do your thing mate, you know how this all works and you know whats best for your body and what you will do successfully and what you wont. I was just happy to see you squat and almost feel good about it.
