They’re the same. I once read that there’s nothing Bulgarian about them so I adopted the RFESS name. It’s a mouthful, though.
I worked my way up to 225 for a fairly easy single on them last year.

Damn. That’s ridiculous. I can do 20 lb for maybe 20 reps. I’m not sure what I could do for a single but it definitely isn’t anywhere close to 225 lb.
You’d be surprised how much you can load them once you try. A lot of it has to do with balance and the setup. I used a barbell today but I’ve been using DBs, too.
I’ll have to see how much I can do one day then. I’ve been holding plates in front of me and I feel like that helps my balance. A barbell on the back would probably feel even more unbalanced. Maybe I’ll try them zercher style.
My goal exactly with body weight… lol. Wish you luck man. I’m sure you’ll put on the work needed. So how long have you been avoiding the scale now? What would you guess you weigh?
My last weigh-in was September 9th and I was 213.4 lbs. I’d guess I’m 220-225 lbs right now. I haven’t exactly been strict with my food. I got tired of being hungry all the time so I started eating. I try to make good decisions but I definitely cheat a lot more now that I’m not tracking anything or trying to lose weight. The goal is to get to a point where I can control my body weight and physique without measuring and tracking my food.
WARM UP
1 mile total
TRAP BAR ROW
165 x 8 x 3
superset with
DB INCLINE
70 x 8 x 3
WENDLER ROW
145 x 8 + 20 sec stretch
superset with
HIGH INCLINE DB PRESS
45 x 10 x 3
Grip is becoming an issue on Wendler Rows. Might be time to take that out of the equation.
HAMMER PULL DOWN
215 x 8 x 3
superset with
DB LAT RAISE
10s x 8 + 8 (parallel to the ground to overhead + regular) x 3 sets
CABLE CURL 21s
70 x 10F/10T/10B x 2
superset with
REV PRESS DOWN 21s
90 x 10F/10B/10T
100 x 10F/10B/10T
The lifting portion took 45 minutes but felt like an hour and a half. I’m not sure what happened but I definitely ran out of steam. I should’ve done some mindless cardio but I couldn’t will myself to do it.
@flappinit, oddly enough, I do this workout by completing each exercise and then resting 60 sec. ![]()
So the definition of superset that you learned only included antagonist exercises, and nothing about limiting rest time whatsoever? My PT cert just said superset usually refers to antagonist exercises and that compound sets were also called agonist supersets, but definitely said “as little rest time as possible”.
I don’t remember if it was supposed to be work-work-rest or just work-work-work-work until you finished all sets.
The training goal dictates the rest anyway. I feel like I can do a pull and then a push without resting, but I need to rest before I pull again or else my performance will suffer horribly. I’m trying to hit reps right now so the rest is necessary. I just use the superset to speed up the workout.
2 LAP DYNAMIC WARM UP
SSB SQUAT
255 x 3 (too slow)
245 x 3 x 4 sets
DEADLIFT
335 x 3 x 5 sets
CLEAN PULLS
275 x 3 x 5 sets
These are feeling good.
RFESS
145 x 3 ea x 5 sets
Finally did this with a pad on the floor and used it as my depth stop (touched it with my trail leg/knee). It turns out that I’ve been skimping on the depth and putting my support leg on things that are taller than a standard bench. Oops.
ELLIPTICAL
20 min interval, L7/14, 2:1 cruise:work, 2.08 miles
Great session. Who would’ve thought leg day would be enjoyable and upper body sucked?
Headed to PT this morning and then I’ll be working a little OT. It’s hard to pass up the opportunity when the alternative is to sit at home alone.
This sounds like heaven to me.
I’ve done enough of that over the years. It’s time to do something with my time. Making extra money checks a lot of boxes.
A lot of officers pickup up part time jobs. I could do that (and I might), but working OT allows me to choose when and how long. If I have something going on and can’t work then so be it. If I pick up a part time gig then I have to be there.
Oh, you’re absolutely right for your situation. I’m just fantasizing slightly about the idea of doing nothing, on my own for a while
We have split custody, with it working out as week on, week off. We miss munchkin like crazy on the week off but it’s also a pretty amazing week off not being parents.
As much as I love how close our two are to us, part of me is looking forward to school times etc. When we get a little bit more time to be people again.
How old are your two @dagill2
Nearly 4 and nearly 2. I refuse to do te whole “18 months” thing, not least because it confuses me.
I’m a few years ahead of you, mine are 6, 8 and 10. It really is nice that they are getting more independent but they are also hard work, especially my son (age 6).
Really looking forward to watching their little personalities develop. We foolishly decided to have kids with no support around so at the minute little lady is with one of us 24/7. She’s not too draining, apart from being constantly ill (she got her mother’s immune system). Little man does go to nursery 4 days a week in term time now his medical issues are sorted, but is hard, hard work even for me. Terrible 2s have been going on for nearly 2 years now and we’re having to look at possible behavioural issues.
