Thanks, guys! I’m excited and relieved. @jackolee, I opted for some Schlafly’s Octoberfest instead of the Crown. I need to dial back my beer drinking and I’ve decided to buy better (see: darker and thicker) beer to do that. It’s more filling so hopefully I’ll be less tempted to drink more than a couple in one sitting.

25 years ago I got a call to a domestic violence scene, when we entered, a mother was standing outside screaming that the son had gone mental. In the house, the son, fucked up on drugs and medicine, weighing more than 300 lbs was standing naked bend over his dad. His dad was dead (killed with bare hands) and the son had smashed the skull open, he was standing with his dad’s brain in his hands. He turned around and looked like a beast on me and my partner. Then he came at us, and we had to shoot him. That’s something that comes back every now and then. Especially when there’s a call for domestic shit.
Sorry to write this on you log man, When I read about the poor girl, it came right back to me.

Thanks, Mort. And thanks for sharing your traumatic experience. I don’t understand our young officers. They seek out the trauma. There will be a gruesome death and they’re like, “Did you look at the pictures?” Mr internal response is “No. And why the hell would I want to see that? I’ve experienced enough trauma.”
I don’t have nightmares or anything, but you can’t unsee that stuff. I started my law enforcement 10 years ago and I never thought I’d see brain matter or pieces of a skull on the pavement. I was wrong.

31 minute session at home after work. My wife asked me to play the victim for some of her lifeguard tests so we went to the pool at her school tonight. She has to recertify Monday and wanted to practice. I had to tread water for a bit but didn’t really swim. I did a few flips off the diving board - just enough to prove to myself that I’m old. I used to love that stuff and now I find it terrifying.
How are the squats and deads feeling !?
How’s the shoulder with the increased training ?
Squats suck because I’m weak! Deadlifts feel freaking awesome. The weight is way too light, but I’m trying to keep from overdoing it.
The shoulder is getting better in a hurry, but it’s a unique experience. I’m doing things that hurt and ache afterwards, but I’m progressing. It’s a balancing act and I’m doing well so far.
Good news man. Have you reassessed you goals yet or is it way too early ?
My only numerical goal is to deadlift 500 lbs by the end of the year.
Being able to power clean again is another goal.
Being able to train normally is pretty high on the list.
Lastly, avoiding becoming a fat arse while not measuring my food. I still plan to stay off the scale til the end of the year.
I guess you could say that my goals are more oriented towards quality of life for the time being. I won’t really reassess anything until I’m able to do anything I want without pain.
