Went to school at NMSU and then left for work. I miss the desert but jobs are scarce in southern NM. Central TX is as close as I could get.
Heck yeah! There’s a while bunch of reasons I love the fall, and you listed three of 'em. Night temp here was in the mid-30’s. They’re saying this is gonna be a cold winter for a lot of the country.
Doggone, work is STILL scarce, even in the Albuquerque area. What field do you work in? After 41 years of the desert, I’m ready for some greenery.
Natural resources, conservation.
I was 30 when I moved away. You want GREEN, check out eastern TN. Incredibly beautiful. Most aesthetic place I’ve ever been and I’ve been all over the country.
I’ve driven through TN once and, you’re right, it’s green beyond comparison with anything here in the desert. Do you get any snow to speak of? Living somewhere to the four seasons is high-ish on my priority list.
Good luck on the community policing position, J! Hopefully you snag this job in just a few weeks.
Congrats on the 395 pull! I hear you about simplifying leg days. When strength is the goal, a few basic moves are all that’s needed, as long as the knees and hips cooperate.
Some and it lasts on the back roads due to all the shade. I had my fill of snow in Wyoming. You’ll soon grow tired of it.
10.11.19 Short Upper Session
Trained during my lunch break. Took 33 minutes.
LYING HAMMER BENCH
140 x 8 x 3 sets
superset with
PENDLAY ROW W/ SWISS BAR
155 x 8 x 3 sets
This is the most awesome version of rows ever! The only down side is occasionally hitting my knees with the bar.
DB LAT RAISE
10 x 10 x 3 sets
Hold at top, slow eccentric.
superset with
LAT PULL DOWN
170 x 8 x 2 sets
150 x 8
Not my favorite movement right now. Having two independent handles would be better.
INCLINE CABLE FLY
50 x 8 too heavy
40 x 10 x 2 sets
superset with
SA REV FLY 21s
20 x 10F/10T/10B x 2 sets
REV CABLE CURL 21s
70 x 10F/10T/10B
70 x 8F/8T/8B
superset with
OH ROPE EXTENSION 21s
90 x 10F/10T/10B
90 x 8F/8T/4B spent
Four supersets is a great setup for this session. I get a lot done and it doesn’t take too long. I’d prefer to use the same equipment each session so I could truly follow the three sets, five sets, add weight, repeat approach. But to do that, I’d have to do movements that aren’t my favorite or are lacking right now. I love the Hammer pull down because the motion is awesome and it allows my arms to work independently. Unfortunately, the work gym doesn’t have one. I also don’t have a Hammer incline machine. I don’t want to stress myself out by going to the Y before or after work so I’ve decided to have two separate upper body workouts - one for the Y and one for work. I’ll do three sets on work days and five sets on days off. I’ll just add weight to each movement each week during the phase.
Have you tried rows with a trap bar? Gave it a shot the other day for fun and I loved it. Did some RDL’s with it too. I like the swiss bar, but the handles are just slightly off from where my sweet spot is.
I eyeballed it today thinking it could work but I was committed to the Swiss Bar. I’ll try that next. Both of my gyms have one.
Not sure if your shoulders will allow but you can always switch the camber to get more ROM.
I actually had it the other way the first two sets and flipped it for that one. My PT told me to stop before my arms go past my torso. It looks like I still didn’t listen.
10.12.19
Went to the work gym and rode the Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer for 10 minutes and then did some PT work. I’m mostly working on my middle and lower traps so I don’t shrug my shoulder every time I raise my arm. I know the scaps elevate eventually, but it shouldn’t be the first thing that happens. I was also weak with flexion and abduction this past week during my PT eval. I’ve started doing holds in those positions with my arm parallel to the ground. It hits two birds with one stone because I get to work on scap depression, too.
Are you standing inside the trap bar when rowing @jshaving
I’m trying to imagine it executed any other way and it’s hilarious haha.
Same here dude
But standing in it seems awkward too. I’m actually in my gym now and just tried it. Seems like a glorified shrug ![]()
It’s funky for sure, I’ve never spent enough time with it to really get the hang of it, but it gets the Meadows seal of approval at least.
I really like everything I’ve read that concerns meadows, so I’m inclined to agree with you here.
Yes. If it’s postioned wrong you can end up hitting your butt with it or something, but my torso is pretty much parallel to the floor and I get a full ROM with the row. Works for me, but maybe others need something else.
