Last surgery I got, I had not done cardio in a while, and I was in the low 40 pre op. I guess runnning so much as a fat man made my heart better.
A lower HR is not necessarily a better HR.
Bradycardia MAY encourage heart arrhythmia more so than a HR within normal range.
Not to instill fear, but this is a common misconception.
This is why I avoid cardio out of principle. I don’t want my heart rate to get too low.
I’m curious how big my heart is… Is it enlarged so it doesn’t have to beat as many times because my stroke volume is high?
My primary doctor doesn’t seem concerned.
Fit bit and watch monitors are largely inaccurate. They have been shown to be 20-40bpm lower than a chest strap which themselves are not very accurate.
My resting HR is usually correct on it. It’s all over that place when I exercise but the graph seems to do alright. Most of the time it’s blank during training or way off. I’ll check my HR for six seconds and add a zero for quick calculations (out of curiosity) and I’ll get 160 while my watch shows 125.
I think for you it’s genetics. Nothing to do with an enlarged heart. An enlarged heart typically pumps less efficient. Not more efficient. And primary docs are almost useless in my opinion. Especially when it comes to the heart, or anything that requires a specialist. Which is nearly everything when you get into the more serious conditions.
However I’m sure your heart is big. You seem to be a caring and giving fella :).
How many weeks are you post surgery now? What is the timeline like for getting back to full rom and pressing heavy again ?
It’s slightly bigger and has more muscle mass compared to a sedentary person for sure. Stroke volume will also be more efficient. Cardiac output = stroke volume x heart rate ; so if stroke volume is up, less heart rate is required to maintain the same cardiac output.
Yeah, it’s not that much of a concern if it’s found in a known athlete, specially endurance type athletes on the condition that said athlete doesn’t have any structural or electrical problems in the heart in the first place. If there is, the chances of what @IronOne is saying can increase
You can google “athlete’s heart” if you wanna read up on it more
Better if you count 15 seconds x 4. You could also do 20 seconds x 3, or 30 seconds x 2.
Don’t worry J, you’ve been in excellent shape at some point of your life, means your heart is stronger and pumps out more blood.
You,ve been doing conditioning lately and the body reacts to this very well, your body is very efficient at absorbing oxygen.
That combined means you’re just a fit young man who should be proud.
When I raced bike my resting heart rate was between 30 - 35 beats a peak levels, outside between 33 - 40. At a few occasions I read sub 30 beats. I carried a note that I was very fit, and my wife knew it as well, should I be injured and brought to a hospital. Haven’t checked it in years.
9.22.19
15.5 weeks.
I just do the short one when I’m working out. I only do it when I feel like I’m close to maxing it out after a really hard bout of exercise. And it’s just because I’m curious. After my fifth lap yesterday, my HR was close to 90bpm after 80 seconds. If I go longer than the quick six second method then it drops because I recover pretty fast.
Hey, @studhammer, I don’t want to clog up your HGH thread any more. I found an article that says the dose for healing from a surgery/injury is 8-16 iu per day. It suggested only taking it five days per week and stopping (or at least decreasing the dose) after several weeks.
This sounds more like what I heard from my acquaintance at the gym. He made it sound like he only used it for a couple weeks.
What are your thoughts on this? Is it complete crap?
I’ve never taken anything so this is unknown territory for me. I’m just tired of being in pain.
Do strongman
I do want to be a strong man, and I’d love to play with some of the implements, but I’m too old and fragile for the sport.
@Frank_C hey buddy sorry I’ve been absent for the past couple months (gotten a handle on the new job and moving to a new city), but I’m back in. What’s going on with the one arm training? Did you injure one? And I’m interested to hear about what you’re doing
I decided to fix my subluxing biceps tendon. I had surgery June 5th (biceps tenodesis). It’s been a long summer. I’m still on light duty at work.
9.23.19
5 AM Training
(why do I do this to myself?)
WARM UP
Usual 2 lap dynamic warm up.
GIANT SET (5 ROUNDS)
Squat 215 x 5
Jumps x 3
Side to Sides x 10 ea (only three rounds of this)
Wore my squat shoes and knee sleeves again. Early morning squats are rough on the ol body.
GIANT SET (3 ROUNDS)
SA DB Bench 70 x 8
SA DB Row 110L/70R x 8
RDL 145 x 8
I forgot that I failed to get 5x8 with 65 on DB Bench the last workout, but I got 70 for 3x8 today. I’ll go back to 65 next time to make sure I hit the 5x8.
SUPERSET
Cable Fly 60 x 15 x 2
Cable Rev Fly 20 x 15 x 2
REV PRESS DOWN
80 x 10F/10T/10B x 2
CONDITIONING
None
Shoulder is getting worse. I need to stop just about everything. Fly’s felt good; I shouldn’t have stopped doing them in the first place. Rev Fly’s are starting to hurt a bit at the bottom of the ROM. I’m going to back off and the only movements I’ll do with my left arm will be bi’s, tri’s, fly’s, rev fly’s, rows, and pull downs. Pulling still feels fine.
It didn’t help that a giant tree branch fell onto my fence sometime overnight. We didn’t have any wind or a storm and the branch appeared to be a live prior to its dive. It bent up a rod iron fence we have on the interior of the yard. I use a hand saw a loppers to cut it up to clear the sidewalk. It was blocking the path from the house to the garage. Using the saw hurt my shoulder but I’m not coordinated enough to use my left hand. It’s going to be fun talking to my PT today.
This is definitely more than I’m using right now. I think 10 iu is more in line with a pro BB dose and maybe that’s why they can train at that level.
I’ve also read about the 5 on/2 off schedule but I never tried it.
All I can say is that I started BPC 157 pretty much immediately after surgery and then started HGH when PT started and I made really big advances in what I could do. My PT treated me like an athlete and not a 54 year old shoulder patient.
10 iu/day is going to cost you about $17-$19/day. @Frank_C
Thanks for the info. I’ve found some articles that reference research studies but they don’t give the specifics. It’s irritating. The article that said 8-16 units per day said to do it for “several weeks”.
I also found a study that did 33 micrograms/day for 1 week and worked the participants up to 50 micrograms/day for seven weeks. That study didn’t notice much between the HGH and control group but that’s only .05 mg per day. That’s a micro dose.
For something short term, like two to three weeks, I’d consider the cost of HGH. I want something that will work. I’ll look into the BPC 157, too.
That sucks man, but at least it’s all sorted.
