Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

That’s what dad’s are for, remember that, when your little ones becomes adults.
Sounds like you’ve had a good day there.

Oh and when he gets old, you can pay him back.

This makes me miss my dad a lot. Awesome he’s so active and supportive. My dad was also old as hell, he’d be 77 now and I’m 29. The fence looks great - I have to rebuild my fence this summer, fortunately it’s smaller than yours. Less expensive and less time consuming, haha.

So cool that you have that awesome relationship with your dad and that he is still super active in his 60s. I’m gonna be that guy with my girls for sure. I’ll probably end up annoying their husbands trying to help with everything. My dad was never around and then passed when I was 17. He was really old like flaps. I’m 39 and if he were still here he’d be 90 in September.

Fence looks great man. And I’m digging the old house. Sounds like a cool place. I have basement envy

having a dad who is local enough t lend a hand is surely a godsend. I chose to live on the other side of the world to my parents so this is no longer an option for me. Luckily i live in a little court and it is like a small community. My neighbor is pretty hand with most things (as am I) so we usually end up doing these types of project together. New fences, building decks, tearing things down etc etc.
When ever my neighbor has a job to do I usually get a message asking if I can help him with something little, 9 hours and 9 beers later I go home hot and dirty !!!

Glad you’re getting that bad boy fixed. Your fence looks great; now to relax and get surgered and healed!

I’ll chime in as well J, that fence is looking great, well done.
Now you can go get that shoulder fixed and not worry about fixing the fence.

Woke up at 213.0 lbs. I don’t intend to track my food again today but I’ll try not to eat like a complete fool. Wish I could say the same about my dinner last night.

My dad grew up in a different world. His education included building a house. The class would work on it all year and then sell it and start over. He’s a jack of all trades. I figured I knew how to go about building a fence but his ideas made it so much easier and faster.

I love it. My wife and I thought we were going to relocate after we got married. We changed our minds because of family. I’d love to live in Colorado or someplace that’s warm all year, but I can’t find a good reason to move.

It’s good to have helpful people in your life. You’re a good man!

Me too! I’m ready to relax and not worry about having to do anything for a day or two. That starts tomorrow. I have to go pick up my dad’s dump truck still I can haul off the old fence.

That wouldn’t cause me any stress normally, but I have to go to court at 0945 today. I don’t want to drive that truck to court so I have to wait till afterwards to get started.

Thanks, Mort!

I only replaced that one section because it was rotted and falling over. I still spent $1200 for materials.

Here are the two things that probably saved me the most grief.

  1. We used 12’ 2x4s so I didn’t have to be perfect with my post spacing.
  2. We attached the 2x4s to the posts with 5/16" x 6" carriage bolts (one per board).

We used a makeshift splice to join the 2x4s but I think this was faster and easier then trying to attach two boards to 3.5" of space on the post.

Here’s a pic from the other side.

My day was crap but I managed to salvage it. I got called to court at 0945 so I couldn’t get to work until I was done. I wanted to go pick up my dad’s dump truck early in the morning but I really didn’t want to drive it to court. I decided to wait until I was done. Well, they kept me there till after noon.

I managed to drive to his house and pick up the truck, come home, load up my old fence, take it to the dump, and then return the truck in about three and a half hours. That left me with just enough time to come home and take a shower before meeting potential tenants at my good rental house.

I showed the house and then went to dinner at my favorite burger joint with my wife. I had that egg burger and sweet potato fries. It was delicious. Our kids are at my parents’ house because I have to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. tomorrow. I wanted to sneak in one last date night before surgery. I suppose I’ll try to cut back on my eating in the following days. But there’s also a good chance that I will eat like crap to cheer myself up.

Hey J you are probably under the knife as I write this.
Good luck with the surgery, and I hope it all has gone well.

You just eat away, you’ve earned it.

Not sure if you’ll be able to read this, but make sure to take a good dump before going under. Don’t eat like cap before surgery too. Had to learn that the hard way. After surgery, it was one of the most terrifying and satisfying dumps I’ve taken though lol
