Now back to your SQ and DL. Technique is solid with no apparent weaknesses except a very miniscule buttwink at the bottom of the squat. Looks like you just have to get stronger all over. The only lift I can think of that supplement is good mornings which are currently. I say push the weight on those. Also have given sumo deads a try?
my hips are extremely tight so i cant get down low enough to do them correctly lol. ive been working on flexibility more tho…
I feel you on the tight hips. I remember a year ago I just couldn’t right no matter what I tried. Are you extending your hips or just bending over? It took me a while to only move the hips.
Definitely extending, but I can only go so far for now. Hurts like hell lol
This is hysterical. A high school kid who’s never competed is giving advice to a guy with a 1600 raw total.
Interwebs at it’s finest.
OP, keep doing exactly what you’re doing until it stops working. Don’t listen to 17 year old kids on the internet.
Spar4tee, please recognize that you have no help to offer this guy. You’re a strong kid, but you’re 17, have never competed, and are nowhere near experienced enough to help an elite raw guy improve his already sick numbers. I don’t mean to pick on you, but these boards need to be better than this. That can only happen when people know where they can and can’t help.
Sorry to be a dick, but somebody had to say it.

Be it as it may, im gonna try some of the explosive training he recommended. Didn’t know he was 17, but he seems like he knows a little about lifting. Hey Ill take all the help I can get lol. Steel Nation, do you have any suggestions for me? im pretty sure Ive max out most of my natural ability

Man your a very humble guy. Do you mind telling us how you have trained to reach such impressive lifts!

If you make the decision to use, it’s up to you. Just make sure you compete untested lol. I personally feel you can get to 700 naturally though.
When did you start using a belt? I’ve never used one, but now I’m strongly considering it.

man im just tryin to get better just like everyone else. there is ALWAYS someone stronger. I attribute my numbers more to the guys i lift with more than my training program, bc i really dont have one. I do the main lifts, and maybe one or two random assistance exercises. But the guys i lift with are super intense, and also super strong, so every time i train im incredibly motivated!

oh no, im not gonna be using any illegal substances. when i say natural ability, i mean i dont use any real training program or philosophies. i just lift. so now im at a point where an organized approach to my lifts and targeting my weaknesses is the only way im going to continue to make progress, as my progress has stalled a bit

ive always been taught to use one shrugs

Ah I see. Misinterpretation my bad.
May I ask a stupid question?
Why did you step back with the bar on your squat? I thought the point of a mono was you didn’t need to move with the weight, just straight up and down.
Excuse my powerlifting ignorance.

If you don’t train in a monolift often, it’s a habit most likely. I know when I get to meets where there is a monolift, I may forget to simply squat and not step out since I don’t have access to one any other time.

LiquidMercury said it perfectly. Actually, they tell you to do what you train, bc if you dont it will throw you off. i wanna get to a gym where there is a mololift bc it definitively saves tons of energy
Spar4tee, if you’re going to the SPF meet in November and need some help throughout the day, I’ll try to give you a hand. I’ll be competing in that meet. PM me if you want and we can set something up.
And LM, anytime you wanna get some time on a monolift hit me up. I train in Gainesville in a fully equipped PL gym. Two of us are prepping for that meet right now, and maybe a third, so if you’re in ever in the area…

Thank you for taking that for what it was worth and not as an insult. Upon rereading I should have worded it differently. Much differently.
OP, without knowing anything about your training I can’t really give you any advice. I am not a fan of speed work unless there is a technique issue, which there doesn’t seem to be in your case.
How about a little more background. How did you peak for this meet? What is your normal split? Just a general description of your training, and why you feel like it’s not working for you anymore.

usually about 10 weeks out, i do heavy 5s. then 6 weeks out i move to 3s, then 3 weeks out i do doubles. I just feel like my body is getting used to the cycle…i havent made much progress since February.
WayneTrain777 do you wrap your own knees to squat? It looked like the wrap didn’t cover much. I’d look into a better wrapping technique. You probably could get a few more pounds out of that alone.

yea i do wrap my own knees usually bt im gonna have my buddy do it this time…not only bc im not great at it, but it wastes a good amount of energy too.

I wrap my own when I have to and it does consume a lot of energy. There’s a guy here in Dallas named Greg Tillinghast that will wrap me up if we’re at the same meet. Greg will put a stranglehold on your knees like you wouldn’t believe. I got my first 700lb and 800lb squats with his help. I hope your partner helps you out with the same success.
