Jordan Peterson's Clinical Psychology License Under Threat

@Andrewgen_Receptors his podcast episode from this past Monday. He and the guest speak about some of what I’ve written extensively about in other threads. It was good. I think you might like it.

He’s late to the issue, but nicer and less abrasive than other authors I’ve mentioned.

I’ll have to give it a listen. Something about the way he frames his conversations and responses just makes me want to listen.

Yes, he has that. He was very crisp in this one.

Grandpa, it’s time for bed.

lol. Wtf. He’s an odd dude. I do believe it’s possible his intelligence is perhaps overstated by the way he talks. He presents quite well, and he has some really neat takes, but when you post shit like that I think you are clearly pandering to a lower common denominator. Listened to his latest rogan podcast and he explained his take on some philosophy behind transgenderism and the (alleged) correlation to over protective mothers in the modern world. There was a neat bit about the origins of democracy in the bible and for a non bible thumper he actually had me intrigued.

Then he’s pissed about recycling paper towel

I assumed this picture was fake, but maybe it isn’t. Idk, i don’t have Twitter to find out the truth.

He’s obviously intelligent, it’s just that he doesn’t know everything and is asked to comment on issues that he may lack knowledge of. Unfortunately, he doesn’t just say he’s not informed enough on a specific topic and believes his intelligence will overcome his ignorance.

The guy is a psychologist and people will ask him about climate change, viruses, religion, racism, politics, etc.

Or he’ll argue with the Pope about religion. The Pope.

And it’s worth noting that his Tweeter feed at least seems indistinguishable from any other alt-right echo chamber personality (ok, maybe a few Canada related posts here and there).

The Pope’s have a long standing history of doing the right thing at all times, so Peterson must be wrong for disagreeing with any of them.
^bad faith argument

Good faith argument:
Peterson is very much un-enamored with the re-writing of the old testament and christianity as it’s practiced today. “Accept Jesus into your heart and you will get into heaven” or whatever mumbo jumbo, is ridiculous. Chris Dornier killed 14 people with a shotgun, but he accepted Jesus into his heart - so he’s good right?
^that’s the kind of stuff peterson isn’t enamored with

Sorry, I’m not a religious person but i enjoy listening to petersons thoughts on religion, which are often very practical.

Honestly, I I were picking a fight with the Pope, I would pick a more winnable topic - let’s say decades-long cover ups of a staggering number of child abuse cases committed by the catholic clergy around the world, or Pope Francis’ seeming preference for autocrats apparently driven by his trad inner circle.

“Social justice” is, to my humble understanding, one of the central tenets of JC’s teachings.

Lol i probably would too.

Sacc the Holy Land™!

Sounds like “my truth” with regard to the soul. It also has nothing to do with what the Pope was talking about. Pope talks about helping the poor and Peterson talks about salvation.

Shouldn’t that be the other way around?

“… whatever you did for one of the least of these…”

And Islam has the zakat.

I don’t see how Peterson finds this idea antithetical to Christianity or religion in general.

Maybe they aren’t opposing ideas.

Peterson is correct…its all about salvation

How do you get there?

Galatians 6:2 - Carry each other’s burdens and so you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Hebrews 13:16 - Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices.
John 15:12 - This is my commandment: love each other just as I have loved you.
Matthew 5:42 - Give to those who ask, and don’t refuse those who wish to borrow from you.
Romans 12:13 - Contribute to the needs of God’s people, and welcome strangers into your home.
Luke 3:10-11 - The crowds asked Him, “What then should we do?” He answered, “Whoever has two shirts must share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same.”
Deuteronomy 15:11 - Poor persons will never disappear from the earth. That’s why I’m giving you this command: you must open your hand generously to your fellow Israelites, to the needy among you, and to the poor who live with you in your land.

And of course, the Golden Rule: Matthew 7:12 - So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

(I totally Googled those, btw. Elementary school VBS didn’t stick with me for that long, haha.)

I guess I would say that the point of Christianity is to live as much like Christ as we can, which involves loving others as Christ loved us. So I can see how some would feel that the Pope is not wrong in his stance. What do you think?

Not only that, but the early spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire (before they attained sufficient numbers and started murdering people who bathed) was in large part due to the social justice element, removal of social barriers and equality in status/wealth which in turn attracted slaves, freedmen and farmhands to the new religion (Pliny’s letters to Trajan come to mind).

According to scripture, you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior and that he died on the cross for our sins and resurrected on the third day…that is salvation

If you do that then you will live your life like Christ and help the poor, forgive others, love your neighbor as you would yourself

And remember, christians are not perfect, but forgiven…we will always sin, but ask for forgiveness in sincerity from our hearts
