Does anyone else have an arm that hyper-extends? My left arm does. This instability in the elbow joint got in the way of my progress, particularly on the bench press. I did dumbbell presses to try to help address the imbalance in strength, but the instability of the joint remained a problem and progress just wasn’t there. After many weeks of frustration, I bought an elastic elbow brace to help stabilize the joint and this has allowed me to make considerable progress with my presses with a lot more comfort. However, I wonder if using a brace is just setting me up for another problem that will eventually cause me trouble. I’ve never used an “artificial” aid like this brace. If anyone’s had experience dealing with a structural imbalance like this, I’d appreciate hearing his or her comments.
I’d love a few suggestions here as well. My problem is that my arm doesn’t extend far enough - it will never ever go to parallel.
