Could you be stalled because your system needs a break?

Possibly, but it’s hard for me to take a break. I would rather change tactics to help my recovery than take a break or deload every few weeks.
On the advice of someone who really knows their shit and has the results to prove it, I’m about to start incorporating deload chains into my training.
I may also start using speed work as advised by austin_bicep. I need to develop more power off the chest, and this seems like a good way to go about it.
Deload chains?

They attach to the bar and hang down to the floor. As you lower the bar, the chain piles up on the floor and the bar gets lighter, then gets heavier again as you press.

Ok, gotcha, I’ve used them. I like them for paused bench pressing because it’s more shoulder friendly. If I do a 2-3 count, I’ll get stuck in the same exact spot as my comp bench.
Ok Im in.

Hope to get 315 by end of summer
Been hitting 315lbs these past couple of weeks on my 1RM attempts. Delayed post though lol. Tried going for 335 afterwards yesterday, couldn’t lock it out. Probably should’ve attempted 325lbs. Got too ahead of myself.
4 PLATES BY 2012. New thread when the rest of you guys hit 315?
I’ll try and get a vid of that asap.

Excellent work, man. I have a bad habit of getting ahead of myself, too. One of the hardest things I’m learning to do is to hold back even though I think I can hit another rep.
There will be a 365 quest thread as soon as I get to 315.
Or you could post one for those who are a bit above 315 now?
Got to 300. About to lay out an 8 workout week plan of attack and see if I can get 315.
Tried the bench press with chains for the first time yesterday. Interesting lift. There is no let-off point. The amount of intensity doesn’t change much from chest to lockout, so a hard double is a really hard double.
Hammered the pecs and tri’s way harder than straight-weight benching ever could, while being very shoulder-friendly. I have been reading, and the strength gains are supposed to be awesome. Looking forward to seeing how far this gets me in the next few months.
Confession: I tried chains for bent rows today. Felt awesome for that, too. Need to do some research as to what lifts can benefit from chains, and what’s just stoopid.
Alright, alright! I tried it for curls, too. You know I had to. Equally awesome.

You can actually find a video of that with Tate using a swiss bar for the bent rows on elitefts.

I’ve looked through a lot of their exercise index. Seems Dave and the boys have tried them on just about everything.
I’m probably going to order some bands. Seems like a lot less pain in the ass to set up for certain lifts.
Last week I got 190 up 12 times and this week got 200 up 10 times. I’m trying for at least 250 when I max at the end of July.

Now I do
Week 1 8-12 reps going to failure or 1 before.
Week 2 5-8 reps, same thing
Week 3 2-5 reps, same thing
Week 4, light week 15+
Week 5, week 1 repeated with 5 more pounds and the weight is good enough as long as you fall within the rep ranges, if you can’t hit the weight in the rep range lighten the load until you can. 1 working set after ramping up for warm-ups.[/quote]
That looks a lot like 5/3/1 ![]()

honestly, fuck 5/3/1
I couldn’t wait until July. Max on deload week today. 240 went up easy. I tried 250 and got stuck 3 inches up. Next month I’ll get that 250.
Never saw this thread. I’ll hit 315 by end of year at the latest.
6’3" - 215lb - 26yrs young
Current 3RM of 255. Going today for 275 3RM and am pretty confident I will hit it for 3.
I’m in, current max 225 but haven’t done maxes in about 3-4 months, probably much higher now. Ill do maxes in a few days and tell you guys what I’m at.
17, 165 bodyweight, been lifting for about a year and a half(only about 7months of that intelligently)
Hit 245 for 8 this week.
