Thanks man!
Well done mate. The squat cues and bracing takes a while to get used to. Just keep practicing and it will get easier. If you get your brace right you will see you numbers go up quickly.
Thanks man. That’s the plan, still have a long ways to go though, but I’m in it for the long run. Might even join some meets if I ever find one here. Glad I found 531 and this site, you guys are awesome!
Whereabouts are you based if you don’t mind me asking? Plenty of experienced lifters on this site might be able to help you find meets etc.
I’m in Manila, Philippines. I’m not actively searching though, I plan to hit 2-3-4 plates first before even considering it.
Ok, that ones out of my wheelhouse. I’m sure you could start a thread on here and find out though.
Powerlifting meets here are quite uncommon. I don’t even know why WSM was held here at some point in the past
Yeah, that’s what I figured. Even finding a powerlifting gym is quite hard.
Why is WSM held anywhere?
It makes good TV and business.
Great job on the pr!
Well done on the PR John, quality.
@johnimperial I don’t think you’ll find one. Crossfit boxes for sure there are. You’d be better off looking for a gym where you can have a squat rack mostly to yourself. In our gym, the squat rack isn’t used that much when I go. Sadly, I have a lifetime membership in a certain commercial gym chain but Anytime Fitness is better for my schedule.
@dagill2 too bad for the sport
Well I can only lift Sundays until November 22, so all I’m really realistically hoping for is maintaining squat strength cause that’s the lift that matters most to me. It’s DL and OHP tomorrow so I’ll go practice those new tweaks again
You ever tried sumo?
I don’t have the mobility for it man.
20 mins on the airdyne.
Circuit of cable high row, KB swings, push up.
Started with 12 reps per set worked down to 1 rep. 30 sec rest max.
50 reps BW back raises.
Deadlift 205x3 225x3 250x13 (PR) 205x8 2sets
OHP 70x3 80x3 90x11 80x8 70x10
Ss EZ curl 5x10
Bent over row 5x15 ss Leg Raise 5x12
Do the estimated 1RM on a higher rep deadlift translate well to a real 1RM? Can’t believe my deadlift increased around 40lbs already.
Also, OHP is stuck and haven’t got any rep PR in a while. I was shooting for 14 reps but only managed 11. This was after I reset my TM.
In short NO. Or I should rather say that’s my experience.
However if you did a linear progression over 4 month or so you’d probably get close, but if you loaded the bar up next week I think you’d be disappointed.
OHP is not easy to progress in, in my experience. But it just a muscle, therefore it should be the same as every other muscles.
Keep grinding it’ll all come together in a year or two.
Thanks man. I used to train strictly in the 6 and below rep range for DL and the estimated 1rm came pretty close for those. Just curious with these amrap sets.
Yeah I hear you, it’s just frustrating not seeing the numbers go up.
Yer I agree with Mort, for me high rep deadlifts don’t translate that well into a 1RM. But if your high rep weight is going up then eventually it will.
In my n=1 experience, no. But progress is progress.
OHP is notoriously tricky to keep making progress on. What’s your current approach?
