JJackKrash's Training/Ski Log

Jack- Great lifts! Good luck on the trip.

Wave 6, Week 1, deads. TM 385. 5-5-5, 65, 75, 85%.

Deads: 45 x10, 90 x10, 135 x5, 185 x3, 225 x1, 250 x5, 290 x5, 330 x14 (rep PR).

BBB Deads: 260 x 10, 10, 10, 10, 10.

Notes: I’m back from the dead. Covered 2250 miles in 3 days, half of which was the last day. We got snowed in in Utah one night and had to make up time.

Deads felt weird today, the bar at the new facility is skinnier than I am used to. But it was good to lift some round metal rather than a piece of furniture or a cardboard box.

My mantard showed up ahead of me.

Not much time to post, I’ll catch up more later.

Jack

Jack, glad to hear you arrived at the new place in one piece! I note that you already have a “new facility”. That’s some good focus, right there.

Welcome back! Sure was quiet around here with you gone. Hope you get settled in fast and in the groove.

Thanks LS and Kimba.

So, I drove down the hill last night and found a different gym. It has a lifting platform, tons of free wieghts, a sled-dragging area, wrestling mats, and a boxing ring. And they don’t mind chalk. Looks like I have found a new home.

sounds like some white knuckled driving… and sounds like a good gym find.

Wow a new home and an awesome new gym. Everythings looking good for you. That sure was a lot of miles you put behind you. Over 1000 miles in one day is insane. As is a 14 rep deadlift. Impressive moving and training.

I’m jealous as hell. sounds like the place I trained at in college

Welcome back, JJ. Sounds like you found a great gym!

Wave 6, week 1, Bench, TM 255, 5-5-5, 65, 75, 85%.

Bench: 45 x20, 90 x10, 135 x5, 165 x5, 190 x5, 215 x 12.

Incline DBBench: 45 x10, 70 x10, 100 x 6.

Chins: 8,6,6,6,5,5,4 (40 total).

Superset:

BBB Bench: 190 x 10, 9, 9, 7, 7

Kroc Rows: 135 x 10, 10, 10, 10, 10

Notes: Bench felt like the trip cost me some lbs. today, we shall see. I did pause some on the bottom of the money set and was able to match last month’s 5 set with the same weight touch-and-go. I lost 2 reps on the incline bench, but added 5 lbs. to the Krock rows and 5 lbs. to BBB set. On a side note, the new gym has a sled, big tires to flip, big ropes to flip, and a lot of other cool stuff, but no dip station. It does have a set of rings to do dips on. I thought this was a bit weird. Also, the place is a ghost town in the morning. So I pretty much had the run of the place.

Nice work Jack. Now go eat some lefse.

That is a solid training, despite the big move and myriad distractions.

A sled! That is so cool. I’ve never used rings but that seems way harder than a dip station. Go get 'em!

Thanks for stopping in, Pete and Kimba. Pete, I’ll take my lefse with butter, cinnamon, and sugar, of course.

Wave 6, week 1, squats, TM 350. 5-5-5, 65, 75, 85%.

Squats: 45 x10, 90 x10, 135 x5, 185 x 3, 225 x 5, 265 x5, 300 x 13:

Zerchers from above the knee: 135 x1, 185 x1, 225 x1, 275 x1, 315 x1, 340 x fail.

Front Squats: 205 x 10, 10, 8, 7.

Notes: Squats felt ok, I am still getting the weight out in front of my hips. Depth felt decent, but please feel free to comment. The bars here are skinnier than I am used to, and I don’t like them for squats and I hate them for front squats. Also, they racks do not have an option for pins just below the knee, so I went a little higher than usual for Zerchers. 315 felt relatively easy, but 340 would not budge. I really ran out of gas on the front squats and cut out the last set. I didn’t think rep 7 of set for was going up, but it did, so I called it quits. At least they were ATG. Decent workout all things considered, I really feel spent. I have not stopped eating for the last 4 or 5 hours. Pancakes, eggs, chicken, cottage cheese, beef and potato stew, etc. We will probably throw some N.Y strips on for dinner.

300x13! and you say it felt “ok”? shit Jack - that is rockin’!

Thanks SD, I really appreciate it. I was happy with the number, the “ok” was directed more to the form. I can really feel the bar getting forward on me, making my lower back do too much work. I can mask this flaw somewhat at submaximal weights, but it will become more and more exposed as I approach more maximal weights at the meet. I need to get that flaw corrected or get titanium bars implanted in my lower back.

Really nice work, Jack. Good to see you tearing it up. Depth looked very good.

Jack,

Checking in, your looking good, very impressive squating. I’m also a 220 that should be 198.

JJ- excellent job! Depth looks legit to me. And considering the recent trip and changes even more impressive. Keep banging away at it!!

Great work Jack. Great eating too!!

I agree with soldog - that’s rockin’! The crease on your hips was below your knee on every rep and your form looked real good.

Do back squats feel more natural to you than front squats Jack? Just curious because they do to me.
