As my jaw is going to get broken, I wont be able to eat solid food for a good couple of weeks . Obviously i’d like to speed my recovery up as quick as possible, not lose to much mass and attempt to reduce the ridiculous inflammation in my face !!
If anyone has some tips for food… protein shakes, oats?
Also supplements, ive compiled a list of things i think will help with the above aims
Glutamine, arginine, vitamin C, bioflavonoids, d3, fishoil and a multivitamin
any others? are any of them useless for what i’m trying to do? etc
any advice in general?
seriously get some BCAAs, i don’t normally use them, but a friend on mine told me about them and I used them when i had my wisdom teeth out a while ago, and i didn’t lose nearly as much muscle as i expected to, and there obviously easy to take.
Whilst the above do help wound healing I would look more at the big picture. Keep protein high (possibly even a little higher than normal, BMR and protein needs can and do increase after surgery), make sure you’re getting a good spread of nutrients (vits, mins and phytochemicals) and fats but… focus on the delivery.
Practically the longer you are incapacitated the more of an issue the planning is going to be so think about
What veggies and fruits you’re going to be able to and LIKE consuming
How you’re going to get round flavour fatigue from protein supplements if you’ve having them several times a day
How you’re going to get a good lot of variety into your diet
After this then you can think about maybe other things flavanoids/curcuminoids/bromelain (stop taking this last one if you get redness at the side of your mouth) etc as they can all help inflammation. Leucine is of course probably going to help retain muscle mass BUT concentrate on the BASICS first.
Go easy on the fish oils especially if there has been a lot of work on blood vessels or you’re prone to bruising or bleeding.
ok im 5 days into my ‘recovery’ and ive dropped almost 5kg to 68.7kg (150 pounds) however i feel like ive lost mostly fat, ive still retained most muscle
ive been having 2 protein shakes a day. but i decided to combine them into one and with milk as lunch everyday in an attempt to slow down my metabolism a little. im now at the stage where i can introduce high fat/protein FOOD like soft tuna and fish.
ive been taking 4000IU VitD3 everyday (ill up it too 5000IU tomorrow as ive been mainly indoors), 2000mg of vitamin c everyday in two 1000mg doses, 6-9g of fish oil, 2 multivitamins (morning and dinner),
i really want to get back into pushing weights to tell my body that it needs its muscle!! ill do some low volume work and gradually work up to a normal program.
is restarting weights if i feel well enough going to once again overkill my metabolism etc. is it a bad idea? am i being a kid in a candy shop and i should just feel patient
To be honest mate, I think you might be worrying a little too much here.
Return to weights when you can, concentrate on recovery if you’re losing weight too fast (over an above the changes in carbohydrate and the water associated with it) then just have another shake with some protein fats and carbohydrate.
Concentrate on recovery 1st and foremost. There’s not a lot you can loose in 2 weeks that you can’t get back in a month, considering the steps you’re taking.
