Its also great because most Japanese probably know chestnut, but since squirrels don’t seem to exist in Japan they don’t know the E-J translation as much. Can totally see the conversation playing out as they slowly piece together the phrases.

Very common here. The vast majority of my married friends are men with Japanese wives. Of everyone I know, I can only think of three couples were the husband is Japanese and the wife isn’t.

Last year in Osaka I met a chick who is a couple of years older than me. We went out to party with her friends and ended up in bed. She occasionally called me after my departure and I started learning japanese. This year when i was in Tokyo she took a couple of days off just to spend some time with me and play guide. And it’s not like she is some Iero kyabu. She had appearances on national TV (yes I have asked her for videos as proof) and took an enormous risk by going out with me. Her contract is forcing her to shield any kind of relationships from the public.

Yeah it is odd. I know plenty of people into the East Asian subcultures (myself included), but I’ve never seen eyes like that up close. I’d probably feel a bit uncomfortable dependent upon the circumstances. I’m not sure if all those are legit, but I’m sure some of them are.
