James' Training Log - Juggernaut Method

14 June,
Warm up
OHP: 3bar, 65, 95, 115, 135, 155, 185, 205
Bench: 3
135, 225, 245, 260, 280, 260, 270, 280, 260
DB Rows: 8*95, 105, 115
Cable rows: 4 sets of increasing weight

Late night session due to work. Pretty good though and I bumped up the bench by 5lbs for this three week cycle. It went up with a lot of force. It looks like my bench is really coming along nicely. All of these sets were done with a pause at the bottom and my pauses are actually getting a tad bit longer now.

All of my rowing was done with a pause and a hold. I like doing them both ways but DB rows and cable rows seem to work really well with this type of training.

15 June
Warm up
Deads: 3135, 225, 315, 365. 8405. 3425. 1455, 475, 495
Good mornings: 58135, 185, 205, 185, 135
Shrugs: 28495
KB Swings supersetted with step ups

Good session today. I want to rotate volume with intensity on my deadlift days and I did volume last time. 495 went up surprisingly easily and I was tempted to keep going but I’m more concerned with leg day than deadlift day and maxing out on deads is really taxing. Good mornings were solid as were the KB swings and step ups. I think that the specific hamstring work that I’m doing on leg day is helping me with my deads. I included shrugs this session too as it’s deadlift related. I suck at using straps and I couldn’t hold the bar when using them so I went mixed grip and did 4 reps, switched grip, then 4 more reps.

18 June
Warm up
OHP: 3bar, 65, 95, 115, 135, 155, 185, 205, 185, 185, 195, 195, 205, 185, 155, 135
Pendlay rows: 5
135, 185, 205, 225
Dips: 8*bw, +25, +50

Ugh. I’m sick still (again?). I was getting better but took a turn for the worse. I’m totally congested and got a nose bleed just from OHP. Then I felt really dizzy during my rows so I just called it a session. Oh well, live to fight another day.

I think that leg pressing is causing me some knee issues. That really makes me upset because I always hear about what a great mass builder they are.

Now, now. I have serious thigh mass for my size and don’t do leg press.

Sorry you are sick. Shake it off soon.

It’s been a while since I posted. I’m still training and even set a PR on deadlifts (525. I’ll post a video below). I won’t log all of my previous training sessions in but will be sure to keep up going forward. I’m adding a lot more sled work in the mix now. I do sprints 2 or 3 times a week and walk with the sled twice a week.

Nice job, looked easy for you and looks like you have more to come.

You have a long distance to move it too, how tall are you? and are those special deadlift socks?

Thanks FB. I’m 6’2 or so and the bar definitely has to travel a good distance. Those socks are motocross socks. I do plan on buying a pair of Metal socks though just to be more fashionable.

Nice pull!

There you are, welcome back.

Nice pull, looked easy. Loved the bar stomp at the end.

Nice deadlift and love the bar stomp…awesome

I may have to get some of them thar fancy DLing socks. I have a bruise on my shin that I whack EVERY TIME I DL. Never quite goes away. Pisses me off.

Nice pull indeed and welcome back

Cheers everyone!

Those are motocross socks and not specifically DL socks but they do the trick. I destroy my sweats with deads and have a tendency to let the bar ride too close to my shins.

8 July
7*40 yard sled sprints. Done on grass with 90lb sled.

I love the socks too! Must have a pair.

Love your intensity.

Haha…thanks for the comment on the socks.

9 July
OHP: 3bar, 65, 95, 115, 135, 155, 165, 185, 165, 175, 185, 165, 175, 185, 165, 175, 185
Pull ups: 10 sets to failure
Pendlay rows: 5
135, 185, 225, 245, 3275
Dips: 10
bw, +25, +50, +75. 3*+100
Curls: 3 sets of ? with continual tension

Pressing went well. Pull ups were done in between my pressing sets and I simply did them to failure without tracking reps. I did rows between presses too. On my last set of dips I decided to do a pause on the third rep and it was all I could do to get back up again. My lesson is to take advantage of the stretch reflex going forward. I did my curls with a fast up and slow down with no pause at the top or bottom.

Took some measurements today. Waist is down but so are my glutes. Chest and neck is up as are legs slightly. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve taken measurements and I’ve decided not to chase them anymore as it takes the fun out of it. The bottom line is that I want to get strong and athletic. If I do that then I think that I’ll look strong and athletic at some point.

To that end I’m going to stick with the triples and HP mass for my lower body. I’ll throw in singles from time to time because I like them. Triples are easier on my body than higher volume and I’m going to continue to do my sled work.

9 July evening

Sprints at the beach and playing in the surf. This sounds easier than it was. The surf was unusually high and running through it with Joey was really hard.

10 July
Squats: 3135, 155, 185, 225, 245, 275, 295. 1315, 335
RDLs: 135, 185, 225, 245, 275
KB swings supersetted with step ups: 3 sets
Sled sprints: 8*40yard

Squats are taking a beating with the sled work but that’s to be expected. I should rebound from them as my body gets used to all of the work. Funny that my deadlift isn’t suffering though. Right now conditioning is taking precedence as I really need to get that aspect up being that I’m now over 40 (yikes!).

james

Holy DL, very nice. Looked pretty easy for you at the bottom. Nice speed there.

Thanks scott!

12 July

OHP: 3bar, 65, 95, 115, 135, 155, 185
Pull ups: 5
F @ bw
Weighted pull ups: 5*+25, +35, +45, +50, +60. 1* +100
Bench: 3* 135, 225, 260, 280, 260, 270, 280, 260, 270, 280, 260, 270. 2*280
Ab work

Bench got tough towards the end and I only got 2 reps from that last set. I’m moving the weight up though because I think the important thing is to keep advancing and keep the volume up. I need to just keep putting weight on the bar.

Pull ups went well and I did sets of weighted ones too. I knocked one out at +100 just to see if I could do it. I weighed in at 220 with my wet training gear on so that’s a 320 lb (145 kg for you metric folk) pull up.

james

100lb pull up, damn man, just damn. Impressive.
