James' Training Log - Juggernaut Method

Awesome workout yesterday!

That’s an insane pyramid buddy. I can imagine you’ve got some nice DOMS today as your reward.

Thanks everyone. Doms weren’t as bad as I thought they would be…

14 Sept
Deads: 3135, 225, 315, 365, 405. 2455. 3495
Squats: 225
2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 4, 5
Stretching

Got that triple so now time to add 10 lbs and start the cycle over. After that I couldn’t imagine doing heavy singles so I went for the volume instead. This is inspired from Dan John again. He mentioned doing the pyramid 5 times but there’s simply no way I was going to do that today. But I did 42 reps after doing a heavy triple so I’m pretty happy with that performance.

So there you go, the power of two. Simple but pretty brutal.

Nice set

Very nice set. Great job!

Great set!

I really liked those Dan John articles aswell. Loved his comment about overhead pressing (they are my favourite aswell).

Great dead work. I have it as my goal to one day come back from a ham pull and reach at least 1 at 500lbs. You are a great inspiration, but i grant i never had a military career. how much do you weigh again?

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the support.

DeadKong, I’m 215 now (I need to get my diet reeled in). I actually didn’t really lift seriously before 4 years ago. I think you can definitely nail 500 if you want to.

HOLY SHYTE…that was impressive!

Pulled that like a champ, nicely done James.

Those were some damn clean DL reps.

Missed the part about you using wraps, hope you like them. I have a set and only tried them once or twice and wasn’t comfortable [/quote]

This made me laugh, sick sense of humor that I have.

Nice work, James. Sometimes I get overwhelmed at all the training options out there. Interesting this pyramiding.

The LADDERS are one of the best ways to get strong and gain size. Adds volume up fast right?

Dan John is an awesome human being for what he does for free and not pushing something in the background.

His complexes are awesome- I program with rep schemes like the ladders you are using. Try those with the Sled pushes. Talk about feeling under the weather…

Excellent deads and at 215 lbs as well. Awesome! You have a really strong back.

How many pounds do you get out of the socks do you think?

(joke)

At least 50. At least.

Sorry for the “pyramid” reference. Dan John does refer to them as ladders and I’m guessing that’s because you don’t change the weight only the reps. Yes, it’s a really quick way to get the volume in. I’m finalizing what my programming is going to look like and I’m definitely going to do that for my accessory lifts.

I just received “The Anabolic Solution” and look forward to reading it. I’ve always felt physically good when I eat using a low carb style but I tend to lose too much weight (and I enjoy eating carbs). I’m not looking for the end all be all but I am looking for some ideas on how to tweak things. I like that he’s pretty open about what to eat and it’s based on science. I tend to eat better (read: enough) when I have a set plan in place which is why I’m looking into this.

I’ve also ordered Dan John’s “Never Let Go” and can’t wait to read it.

Nice clean deads, you made that look easy.

17 Sept
Warm up
Squats: 3135, 135, 225. 1315
OHP: 3135, 155, 175, 155, 165, 175, 155
Pull ups: 5 sets. 2
10, 37
Z presses: 135
2,3,4,5,2,3,4,5,2,3,4,5,2
Pendlay rows: 225*2,4,6,8,6,4,2,4,6,8,6,4,2
Stretching

I included squats as part of my warm up today just to keep the practice. They actually work really well to get your body ready for everything else.

I was going to hit singles on my press but decided against it as I’m going to be doing singles on squats and I really only want to focus on one lift at a time. Besides, HP mass and the volume approach has been working well for me so far. I did ladders on z presses and rows as a way of getting the volume in there. My shoulders are toast now and I’ll take these first three weeks to see how well I adapt to so much volume as the HP mass program asks for progressive volume on the main lift too. I don’t know if it will be too much for me to do all of the extra work.

Great point about the squats, talk about a warmup!

I envy your pressing strength. WAY stronger than me.
